Mister Coote is a character from the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction at the Disney Parks.
History[]
Background[]
Mister Coote was a pirate who served as a crewman of the Wicked Wench. Not much is known about Coote's early life. During his lifetime, he joined the crew of the Wicked Wench led by the Pirate Captain who raided Isla Tesoro, which led to a successful invasion on the island; however, while the crew of the Wicked Wench raided the town, Coote lay down on his stomach onto a cannon arming himself with a pistol in a room full of barrels of gunpowder dangling in the area.
Development History[]
Coote is one of the characters created for the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction which first opened at Disneyland in 1967. He was displayed in the Isla Tesoro scene with the other pirates and has remained in this area ever since.
Due to the success of the attraction at Disneyland, the Pirates of the Caribbean attraction was later constructed at Magic Kingdom, still featuring Mister Coote in it.
Formerly in the Magic Kingdom version of the attraction, Mister Coote was also featured in a treasure room scene which was in place of the arsenal scene from the California version of the attraction where he fired a pistol at the Pirate Captain with the latter sitting on Coote. This scene was heavily replaced by Jack Sparrow as of the post-2006 revamp in the Florida version resulting in Coote and the rest of the pirates from the last scene to be removed from the attraction.
Appearances[]
Pirates of the Caribbean[]
In the Disneyland version of the attraction, Coote is seen during the end of the attraction at the arsenal scene where he would be lying down on a cannon attempting to fire at a rope of dangling gunpowder barrel to drop onto guests as one of the last pirates seen along with a few other pirates which the boats manage to evade the pirates in time with the boats going uphill to reach to the attraction's exit.
Other appearances[]
Coote also appears in the Sea of Thieves: A Pirate's Life expansion pack of Sea of Thieves which was released as a free expansion based on the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.

Trivia[]
- The name "Mister Coote" was given by the late X Atencio upon seeing a buccaneer sketch designed by Marc Davis.
- In Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, one scene features Jack Sparrow sitting on a cannon in a similar manner as Coote from the original attraction as a reference to the attraction. The On Stranger Tides production team became aware of the attraction for these poses, and noted that there would be elements similar to the ones from the attraction. However, Coote himself has not yet made a physical appearance in the film series or other media inspired by it.
