"Crocodile Rock" is a song written by Elton John and Bernie Taupin. It was first released in October 27, 1972 and recorded in summer 1972 and is featured in the film Gnomeo & Juliet. It was also sung by Elton John and the Electric Mayhem in episode 214 of The Muppet Show, and in his book Before You Leap, Kermit the Frog says his mother booked Elton John into the local theatre, the Bayou Bijou. While there, she introduced John to the crocodile that inspired "Crocodile Rock".
In the late 1980s, the song was featured on The Disney Channel as a music video on DTV², a sequel series to the original DTV. The video is set to footage of, among other things, Donald and the Wheel, How to Dance, Robin Hood, How to Swim, The Little House, Lion Around, Don's Fountain of Youth, Peter Pan, Pluto at the Zoo, the "Dance of the Hours" sequence of Fantasia, and Bone Trouble.
Nelly Furtado and John himself covered the song in 2010, redoing a few of the lyrics (e.g. "I remember when rock was young, Gnomeo and Juliet had so much fun..." instead of "Me and Susie had so much fun..."). It was recorded for the soundtrack.
