Crush 'n' Gusher is a water coaster in Disney's Typhoon Lagoon water park at the Walt Disney World Resort.

The ride was the first water coaster to be built for a Disney water park. Themed as an abandoned and dilapidated fruit processing center, riders may slide down three different slides of various intensity: the "Banana Blaster", "Coconut Crusher", or "Pineapple Plunger". They range from 410 to 420 feet in length, but all send riders to a plunge into the "Hideaway Bay" pool.[1]

Development[]

Specifics pertaining to mark the Crush 'n' Gusher were first announced by Disney officials by December 2004. As Patrick Brennan of Walt Disney Imagineering and lead creative designer of the attraction explained, the Crush 'n' Gusher would utilize "some of the latest water ride innovations in the industry today." He also explained, "When completed, Crush 'n' Gusher at Disney's Typhoon Lagoon will be the only water coaster thrill ride of its kind in central Florida".[2]

The Crush 'n' Gusher opened officially on March 15, 2005.[1]

Theme[]

The Crush 'n' Gusher is themed around being a water-ride built by the locals of Typhoon Lagoon from the remains of a fruit exportation company's produce wash facility. This locale was owned by the TropicalAmity Fruit Exporters company which was based in Placid Palms, Florida before the great hurricane (presumed to have occurred in 1955) which hit the lagoon. The hurricane devastated the TropicalAmity plant and destroyed one of its signs, making it appear to say, "Tropi-Calamity".

Residents of Typhoon Lagoon renamed the plant the Crush 'n' Gusher due to Tropicalamity's slogan, "Our juices are crushed with flavor...Our produce is gushing with taste!". The tubes which were used for fruit transportation and produce washing would be repurposed into a slide attraction (despite signs throughout the facility expressly saying using the tubes for such a purpose is dangerous and banned).

Attraction description[]

After riders ascend a dilapidated structure seemingly through a dense tropical forest, they are sent down one of the three slides, which all return to the Hideaway Bay pool in different paths consisting of uphill and downhill tunnels, turns, curves, and the like.[3] They travel upon inflatable rafts decorated with tropical fruits, reflecting Disney's theme of a journey through an abandoned tropical fruit processing plant. Fun facts about bananas and pineapples are located on signs adjacent to the ride's queue. It is sponsored by Chiquita. It is also one of the only water slides in North America to feature 3-person inline slide tubes.

Statistics[]

  • One slide can fill a regular home pool in a minute.
  • The Crush 'n' Gusher can fill the 2.7 million US-gallon (10,000 m3) wave pool in about 3 hours
  • The water jets put out 1,360 US gallons (5.1 m3) a minute and 9 million US gallons (34,000 m3) every 12½ h.ours
