- ―Bruno Carrelli and Kamala Khan
"Crushed" is the second episode of the Disney+ streaming television miniseries Ms. Marvel and was released on June 15, 2022. It was written by Kate Gritmon and directed by Meera Menon.
Kamala and Bruno explore the source of her newfound powers just in time for a perilous adventure.
Synopsis[]
Investigating the source of her new-found powers, Kamala and Bruno explore what she can do with her abilities. But Kamala becomes distracted from her super hero training when she meets Kamran, the new kid at school. Her powers will be put to the test when she’s confronted with a perilous situation, and she’s the only one who can help.
Plot[]
Kamala, now uber confident from last night's excursion, comes to school to hear Zoe tell a, partially fabricated, version about her trip to AvengerCon and being rescued by "Night Light", before announcing a party at her house. Kamala initially does not want to attend, but changes her mind when another boy named Kamran agrees to go. Kamala shows her powers off to Bruno and he helps her train her new abilities; discovering that she can create platforms and, according to Bruno's research, that her powers come from within her, as opposed to the bangle giving them to her. Later at Mosque, Kamala convinces Nakia to run for the Mosque Board so that they can have actual change.
Kamala apologizes to Muneeba and she allows her to attend Zoe's party with her friends. The party is cut short however and Kamala and her friends are rescued by Kamran who afterwards gives Kamala his phone number; sending her into euphoria. At school, she nearly reveals her powers to everyone, but while in the restroom is comforted by Nakia who tells her that she embraced herself despite how people viewed her. Bruno is told by Mr. Wilson that he has been accepted into CalTech for next semester. He attempts to tell Kamala, but she is distracted by Kamran and goes to have lunch with him where they hit it off despite Aamir and his fiancé Tyesha Hillman showing up.
At dinner at the Khan household, Yusuf tells Tyesha, Muneeba's partition story where her mother Sana, nearly was separated by her family during the split, but that she managed to find her father after "[following] a trail of stars". Realizing that her story may have had something to do with the bangle, Kamala has a vision before passing out in front of her family. She goes to her room in an effort to talk to Sana over the phone, but she refuses to divulge any information, other than that she got the bangle from her mother Aisha, and Yusuf nearly barging in. While preparing for Eid, Kamala asks Muneeba, but she refuses to tell her anything either.
At the festival, Nakia has Kamala and Bruno help out with spreading her influence in becoming part of the Mosque Board with even Yusuf getting swayed, despite his prior commitment. Elsewhere, Zoe is interrogated by Damage Control who seemingly have deduced Kamala's identity and believe her to be a threat. They prepare a sweep of Jersey for her. Kamala uses the opportunity at Eid to interview the "Illumin-Aunties" for information on Sana and Aisha and is told that she brought shame on their family as well as rumors that she ran away with someone else, committed murder, or that she was possibly cursed and brought bad fortune to whoever she touched.
On a nearby tower, a young boy winds up dangling from a window while trying to take a selfie and Kamala jumps into action with her Captain Marvel costume. She manages to comfort the boy while using her powers to save him. While trying to bring him down safely, she has another strange vision of a woman, and nearly drops the boy. Afterwards, she is chased by drones through an alleyway and manages to evade the damage control agents. Kamran suddenly shows up in his car and rescues Kamala. Confused about how he knew it was her, she is further surprised to meet Kamran's mother, Najma, who has been waiting to meet Kamala for sometime.
