"Crystal Cavern Caper" is the first segment of the third episode of Ariel. It premiered on June 28, 2024 alongside "A Banner Moment".
Synopsis[]
Ariel tries to stop a pesky hermit crab from stealing her land treasures.
Plot[]
Fernie, Ariel, and Lucia found lots of human stuff recently. Flounder arrives with a bag of them, and he refuses help. While Ariel, Lucia, Fernie, and Flounder head in a crystal cavern, a crab watches this. Ariel calls the thing Flounder is holding a flap-a-diddle, which is a flap-a-doodle, but smaller. It can be worn on one's head. Ariel then calls the shovel she's holding a scoopy-whippy. Lucia likes this, and Fernie shows the thing he got a bootle-scootle. As the crab overhears this, Ariel wonders what the magnifying glass she's holding is called.
At that time, the crab steals everything Ariel, Lucia, Fernie, and Flounder collected. They wonder who could be taking them, and Flounder finds the hermit crab responsible for that. He makes off with the human stuff with the others giving chase. Ariel wonders why the crab would want with the human stuff. She mentions the lesson about asking before taking stuff from someone. In case the crab comes back for more, Ariel and her friends will be back to stop him.
So far, nothing much has been stolen by the crab, and Fernie has a plan to trap the crab by using a flap-a-diddle to trick him and then catch him. When the crab tries to go for the flap-a-diddle, Fernie will pull the string to make the basket fall down and trap the crab. With the crab arriving, everyone hides. However, the plan backfires as the crab cuts the string before making off with the flap-a-diddle. A new plan is needed, and Lucia has one regarding using magic to catch the crab in a bubble.
Everyone hides again, and the crab then approaches. Lucia recites the spell, but it is revealed that she missed the crab, who then rides the bubble with the whiffle-poof. Ariel and her friends decide to turn to the expert when they hear footsteps. Ariel then gets the fake crab, and Fernie states that the real crab must have put it there to trick Ariel and her friends while he takes the treasure. The crab then makes off with Naima with Ariel and her friends knowing they will catch him with a plan.
However, the crab is still able to escape. Ariel states that he took everything except the magnifying glass she got. Ariel then finds footprints from the crab, and after that gives her an idea, the others follow them from the cavern to lead them to the crab. They soon find everything the crab got before confronting him. The crab, who introduces himself as Hermès the hermit crab, states that he outgrown his shell. Fernie states that when hermit crabs are always growing, and when they get too big, they don't fit in their shells anymore, so they have to find a new, bigger shell. Hermès thought he could use what he got as a new home, and he also took Naima because he thought she looked friendly, and he could use a friend. Ariel tells Hermès to ask before taking something, as she and her friends love to share. Hermès apologizes, as he got excited after seeing all their cool things at the crystal cavern. Ariel decides to give one of Hermès' treasures as a land home as long as he asks before taking things that aren't his. Hermès likes it, and returns everyone their respective things. Also, Ariel and her friends will be Hermès' friends. Hermès decides to get the flap-a-diddle as his home, and states that when he grows out of it, he will ask them first.
