"Dance Lessons" is the second segment of the twenty-fifth episode of Recess.
Synopsis[]
After getting in trouble for fighting at school, Spinelli is forced to take ballet lessons -- and finds Mikey in the same class.
Plot[]
Miss Finster catches Spinelli getting into another fight and her parents are called. At home, Flo tells her that she needs to find a way to release all of her energy and signs her up for dancing lessons, much to her chagrin. Spinelli has no coordination which is made more apparent by the Megans who inhabit the class. Her teacher Mademoiselle Pavlova sets her up with a partner who turns out to be Mikey. He reveals that when he was a toddler he was considered heavyset and was set up with dance lessons. While he loves the art form, his weight has made it almost impossible for him to perform and is usually made stage support. Spinelli offers to help him as her more coarse actions can offset him better and make him a more efficient dancer.
When Miss Grotke announces that the school will be attending the new dance recital, the Gang make fun of it, until Mikey reveals that he will be in it. Spinelli refuses to admit that she will be in it as she wants to retain her reputation. She tells Pavlova that she will not be in the show and while saddened, informs her about a "little girl in old country" who also wanted to prove herself by keeping her reputation. Everyone watches the recital with low expectations. When Spinelli sees a saddened Mikey on the sidelines, Spinelli changes her mind and joins him. The two of them perform their routine which ends up impressing the crowd. Pavlova congratulates Spinelli and Mikey and reveals that she was the little girl in old country who learned that friendship was more important than reputation.
