The Dancing Lawn is a location featured in the 2008 Disney/Walden Media adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.
Background[]
The Dancing Lawn serves as the traditional site used for feasts and councils of the Old Narnians. According to the map of Narnia, it is located on the southern area of the Great River and Aslan's How.[2] Around this site are elm trees that surround the smooth circle of grass and medium-sized rock formations, as well as a water well that also lies within the margin.
Role in the film[]
As Caspian is brought to the Dancing Lawn, a group of Old Narnians surround him and confront him, as they take part in a riot, accusing him for his association with the Telmarines whose roots were notoriously responsible for the destruction of their homes, lands, freedom, and lives. During the riot, Glenstorm commands the Narnians to kill Caspian, followed by the other Narnians denouncing him as a liar. Nikabrik approaches Caspian, telling him that the Horn he has proves that he is a thief, just as Caspian denies. Asterius asks the other Narnians to give him a list of the things the Telmarines stole from them, just as they list their homes, land, freedom, lives, and kingdom, accusing Caspian of being a thief. Amongst the creatures taking part in the riot are centaurs, fauns, satyrs, minotaurs, dwarfs, stags, wolves, tigers, mice, leopards (including black panthers), cheetahs, a fox, boars, dogs, cheetahs, and the giant Wimbleweather who take part in a riot against Caspian, accusing him for being a villain and liar to the Narnians. Caspian tells them that they would punish him for the crimes the Telmarines committed, just as Nikabrik deems him accountable. Reepicheep approaches him and confronts him, asking Nikabrik if his ancestors fought alongside Jadis, which he replies to him that he would do it again if the Narnians would rid him, just before Trufflehunter approaches Nikabrik, asking him that he is suggesting to fight against Aslan, much to the other Narnians fearing that they would kill him.
As Nikabrik tells the rioting Narnians that Caspian is a Telmarine and why they would want him as their king, the latter tells the Narnians that he can help them. Caspian speaks in front of the Narnians that he is a prince whose throne is rightfully his, planning to bring peace between the Narnians and Telmarines. Glenstorm tells the Narnians that Caspian has offered to give them back their freedom. Pattertwig then interrupts, asking Caspian if there could really be a possible way to bring peace between the Narnians and the Telmarines, which he tells the squirrel that he never believed in the existence of talking creatures. As Caspian began to rally the Narnians to help bring back the peace, showing them the Horn that gathered them together, he tells them that they have a chance to save Narnia. Glenstorm and his sons offer him their swords as the other Narnians also offer him their lives by raising their weapons, as they trust Caspian in fighting off the Telmarine army.
Trivia[]
- According to the Crafting of Narnia art book, concept art of the Dancing Lawn depicted violet flowers and rocks reflecting the light amid the grass giving the scene an otherworldly beauty. Despite this, barely any violet flowers were visible in the final version of the film.[1]
