Dan "Danny" Reid, Jr. is a minor character in the 2013 film The Lone Ranger. He is the son of Dan Reid Sr. and Rebecca Reid, and the nephew of John Reid, the Lone Ranger.

Background[]

Dan Reid is a young boy who lives with his mother Rebecca in Colby, Texas. His father Dan Reid Sr. is a Texas Ranger who is killed in an ambush by the outlaw Butch Cavendish. Dan idolizes his father and wants to follow in his footsteps. He also looks up to his uncle John, who survives the ambush and becomes the masked vigilante known as the Lone Ranger.

Personality[]

Dan is brave, loyal, and adventurous. He is proud of his family and their legacy. He is curious about the world and eager to learn new things. He is also compassionate and kind, as he befriends Tonto, the Lone Ranger's Native American companion.

Role in the film[]

Dan first appears in the film when he and his mother greet his father and uncle at the train station. He is excited to see them and asks them about their adventures. He also meets Tonto, who is chained to Butch Cavendish as a prisoner. He gives Tonto a silver bullet that his father made for him.

Later, Dan attends his father's funeral after he is killed by Cavendish. He is saddened by his loss, but also proud of his father's heroism. He also witnesses his uncle John's return from the dead, and is amazed by his transformation into the Lone Ranger.

Dan is kidnapped by Cavendish's men, along with his mother and other townspeople, and taken to a secret mine where Cavendish plans to use them as hostages. He is rescued by the Lone Ranger and Tonto, who manage to stop Cavendish and his allies from destroying the railroad. Dan is reunited with his uncle, who gives him his father's badge and tells him to take care of his mother. Dan watches as the Lone Ranger and Tonto ride away into the sunset.

Trivia[]

  • Dan Reid is based on the character of Dan Reid Jr., the Lone Ranger's nephew and the father of the Green Hornet, from the original Lone Ranger radio and TV series.
  • His silver bullet is a reference to the Lone Ranger's signature weapon, which he uses as a symbol of justice and a reminder of his brotherhood with the Texas Rangers.
