On March 16, 2022, Charlie Cox discussed a potential reboot for the character and series, believing it should not continue from where the third season of the Netflix series finished, but should be "re-imagined" and "slightly different", with a few years passing since the end of the previous series.[19] He also discussed a new series potentially not being rated TV-MA as the Netflix series was, stating that he believed Marvel Studios would be able to create a faithful portrayal of the character with those restrictions even though he personally found the comics "more exciting, readable, relatable when it lives in a darker space" such as Brian Michael Bendis and Alex Maleev's run in the comics. Additionally, he felt attributes of the character such as his age, Christian guilt, and history with women tended to cover more mature subjects.[20]
It was reported that on May 19, 2022 Marvel Studios has officially begun work on the series, with Matt Corman and Chris Ord serving as the showrunners and executive producers.[21]
The official title of the revival was revealed during the 2022 San Diego Comic-Con, as well as the episode count and the expected window for release.[3]

On June 12, 2023, production of the series was suspended for the day due to the writers strike.[22] Two days later, production of the series had been shut down and that the series would resume production after the strike was resolved.[23] By October 11, the series received a complete overhaul, with Matt Corman, Chris Ord and the directors being released from the project, as Marvel Studios was looking for a new set of writers and directors. Corman and Ord would remain as executive producers, with the series being retooled to have a traditional television working process.[24] Dario Scardapane was hired as the series new showrunner, and that Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead would direct the remaining episodes of the series. Marvel will keep some scenes and episodes that have already been shot, though other serialized elements will be injected. Scardapane will write the new episodes and new scenes, incorporating what was already shot. Benson and Moorhead would direct the new episodes to bring this first season to a close. It is unclear how many episodes it will encompass.[25]
In August 2024, actor Vincent D'Onofrio teased in an interview with Rotten Tomatoes that the violent scenes in Daredevil: Born Again could go further than portrayed in the original Netflix series.[26] Furthermore, Brad Winderbaum, the head of streaming, television, and animation at Marvel Studios, spoke with Entertainment Weekly that Daredevil: Born Again will have "some of the most brutal action we've ever brought to the screen,"[27] as the Punisher, portrayed by Jon Bernthal, was seen bloodied in the set.
