Dave Douglas is the protagonist in the 2006 remake of The Shaggy Dog. He is a workaholic lawyer whose job keeps him too occupied to spend time with his family. But when a genetic border collie bites him, he receives dog traits, transforms into a dog and his life turns upside down.
Role in the film[]
Dave was a deputy district attorney in Los Angeles County who was prosecuting social studies teacher and activist Justin Forrester for firebombing the pharmaceutical corporation Grant and Strictland. Forrester denied this but claimed that Grant and Strictland have been engaging in illegal animal experimentation. This distanced him from his daughter, Carly, one of Forrester's students.
Dave becomes embroiled in a lawsuit over an illegal animal laboratory with Ken (his friend and mate), it’s yet another ambitious assignment that will whisk workaholic Dave away from his wife, Rebecca (Kristin Davis) and his kids, Carly and Josh, who yearn for his attention. Meanwhile, the evil Dr. Kozak has stolen a 300 year old bearded collie named Khyi Yang Po from Tibet because the dog has immortality in his DNA, he carries out experiments to create an immortality serum for his boss Lance Strictland (Grant & Strictland CEO) and his scientists, Gwen and Larry, carry out illegal experiments on animals to create it, they discovered that when dog DNA (which was bearded dogs just like the sacred dog) entered the body of an individual it received mutations and canine behaviors but it had to enter the bloodstream to cause real damage. One of the experiments was a snake, he was very old and almost dead due to his advanced age, when they injected him with the serum with the dog's DNA the molecular degradation stopped completely and the snake became very strong and acquired canine behaviors which he happily adopted, he liked dog biscuits, stuck out his tongue and had the dog's tail. Gwen and Larry believed they had the 300 year old dog under control but the sacred dog was extremely intelligent and had a plan to escape, he let them take a sample of his blood and when they turned around he took the infected syringe and pointed it at them, then Kozak arrived at the laboratory and the dog ran to the elevator and escaped, while escaping he was found by Carly and her friend Trey, the dog showed Carly that she was right about Grant & Strictland performing experiments on animals. They take him to Carly's house and call him "Shaggy", Carly liked Shaggy and Rebecca and Josh liked him too so they adopted him but when Dave discovers Shaggy he tries to get rid of him and drags him to the garage. Shaggy saw a stack of newspapers and had a plan, he broke free and ran towards the newspapers, Dave mentions that Shaggy would not stay with them while Shaggy took and brought Dave a newspaper with a news about Forrester, at that moment Dave bent down to take it and Shaggy bit him on the hand, perfectly transferring his DNA which was able to enter the bloodstream with the bite, Dave began to scream in pain while his new canine DNA spread through his body and bit into his human DNA to turning him into dogs, giving Dave the miracle of mutation and the immortality gene, making him the first human to transform into a sacred dog.
Dave bandaged his hand, sent Shaggy to the animal shelter and went to work in his studio while his miraculous transformation from man to dog began, Rebecca came to complain that Dave wasn't spending time with them and he promised change, he promised to make dinner the next night, then it would be their wedding anniversary and later they would go on vacation to Hawaii, Rebecca told Dave to reconnect with the family and he promised to do it without knowing he would do it as a dog, Dave and Rebecca kissed and the mutation started to take effect and Dave started acting like a dog, his hair started to itch so he scratched, when it was time to sleeping, Dave lay on the bed like a dog next to its owner's feet and in the morning Rebecca was surprised to see Dave lying next to her feet as if he were her dog, Rebecca petted Dave to wake him up and asked him if he had slept badly, Dave woke up and told her no, he started stretching, making sounds and rolling around like a dog and said he had a great night's sleep, he got up and told that he dreamed that he was chasing cars like a dog all night, Dave put on his robe and when he tried to grab the sash he started chasing it like a dog chasing its tail, then Dave mentioned that he wanted to go out to the park to run, he went to take a bath and came out completely soaked and shook himself like a dog to dry himself, while he was dressing his whole body itched and his ears were extremely sensitive to Josh's loud music, at breakfast the coffee tasted hot and bitter, he poured himself cereal and stuck his face in the bowl like a dog and licked Rebecca in the face.
When Dave left the house he sniffed something, started sniffing his plants and saw his neighbor's dog urinating in his garden so he went after him screaming, Dave managed to get him to leave and celebrated by sticking out his tongue like a dog, confusing his neighbor and a gardener, on the way to work Dave sticks his head out of his car window like a dog and started interacting with a dog in a car next to him, in court, Dave's canine behavior was put into action during the trial, he growled, handed over a document with his mouth and barked, then Dave asks to rest and the judge gave him 10 minutes, Dave went to the bathroom and a man drew a picture of Dave carrying the document in his mouth, in the bathroom, Dave noticed that his hair was strange and he wondered what was happening to him without knowing that his body was receiving his new canine DNA, then Dave took off the bandage on his hand and started licking and biting it and later he had to pee so he used a urinal and peed like a dog in a fire hydrant, Dave realized something was happening so he left and he told Lori (his assistant) that he was sick.
Dave went to the shelter (thinking that his canine behavior was because Shaggy had rabies) and there an employee told him that Shaggy didn't have rabies, Dave was confused by not knowing the cause of his canine behavior without knowing that it was due to his canine DNA and decided to go see Shaggy, he went to the cages and growled at an old lady's cat, when Dave arrived with the dogs they started barking knowing that Dave was a dog too while he felt dizzy, then Dave found Shaggy and asked him why he bit him and Dave thought Shaggy wanted to bite him, then the dogs started barking louder so Dave confronted them and barking causing him to get a headache and he wanted them to be quiet, then Dave turned to Shaggy and asked him why did he bite him and Dave thought Shaggy knew who he was and he bit him on purpose, Dave wondered what was going on and what was happening to him, which was a miracle that came to change his life in a way he never imagined, then Dave fainted and inside his body his transformation from man to dog had been completed, his canine DNA had modified all the human DNA in his body and the dogs were circulating perfectly in the body, completing the mutation and providing the gene for immortality, at that moment, the new dog inside Dave took control and transformed him perfectly and miraculously into Shaggy, transforming him into the first human to transform into a sacred dog of immortality just like Shaggy and his family's new pet, then Dave regained consciousness and woke up in his new dog body, the dogs were surprised to see that Dave had miraculously transformed into a sacred dog while Dave could feel his entire transformation and it felt strange, Dave had no idea that he had stopped being a man and become a sacred dog with youth in his DNA and he did not notice that his clothes were lying on the floor next to him and that he was completely naked, he only knew that he wanted answers, so he sat on the floor to talk to Shaggy and asked him why did he bite him, Shaggy told him that he was an animal and Dave asked him if it was a joke against lawyers, at that moment Dave realized he could understand Shaggy and asked him why, Shaggy told Dave to run and Dave asked him why he should run, at that moment the employee arrived and he thought Dave was a dog who got out of his cage without knowing that Dave had become a dog and tried to catch him, when Dave saw the employee he thought he was taller and asked him what he was doing without hearing himself bark, then the employee tried to catch him and Dave ran on all fours and escaped from under his legs, while he was running Dave asked why he did it on all fours, when he came out a person opened the door and Dave thanked it and then Dave realized that he liked to run on all fours, he felt like he was flying and he wondered why before he only ran with two, while he was running down the street he realized that something hit him in the face but he realized that it was his tongue and he liked to taste his eye, the employee came out of the shelter and realized that Dave had run away, then Gwen and Larry arrived at the shelter and pretended to be parents looking for their son's dog, Dave passed a store with televisions in the window and he wanted to see them, then Dave started to see that it was a new television and he saw himself on the television and discovered that he was a dog, Dave thought there was no way he was a dog and he barked which surprised him, Dave thought that someone hit him and disguised him as a dog and then he thought that he was dreaming and that later he would be naked in court, he tried to wake up so he ran to the window, he hit it and it hurt, then Dave realized he wasn't dreaming and he wasn't disguised as a dog and he realized he was actually a dog, Dave barked and started screaming that he was a dog, Gwen and Larry found Shaggy and took him away.
Dave ran home and wished there was someone, then he came home and was glad, then he tried to open the door with his paws but failed and he wondered how dogs could do things with their paws, he rang the doorbell with his nose, Carly opened the door and she was happy to see him, she thought Dave was Shaggy and Dave told her that he was sure he had turned into Shaggy when Shaggy bit him but Carly started petting him and Dave was loved it and asked her to continue but he managed to concentrate on telling her that he had turned into a dog, then Josh arrived and also thought that Dave was Shaggy and petted him too, Dave barked to tell them that he was his father but Carly thought that Dave wanted to use the bathroom and Dave was surprised when Carly asked him if he needed to use the bathroom, then he realized that they were just listening to him bark so he ran into the living room, grabbed a Scrabble and tried to write "I AM DAD" but the kids pick up the game and put it on a high shelf, Dave barked and complained that in 16 years they had never cleaned their rooms and just when Dave turned into a dog they decided to start cleaning, then Janey (a friend of Carly) arrived and Carly said goodbye to Josh, Josh asked her where she was going and Carly asked him if he wouldn't tell Dave and Rebecca without knowing that her father was with them being their dog, Josh promised not to tell them anything and Carly revealed that she planed to get a tattoo on her butt, Dave thought that was a bad idea so he ran outside, Dave quickly ran to Janey's car while she got scared and closed the window, Carly and Josh ran to stop Dave while he asked Janey how she could do that, that he thought she was a good girl and reminded her that she and Carly were scouts, Janey fled and Carly scolded Dave without her knowing that her dog was her father, Dave started barking and punished Carly but they thought he was aggressive and maybe they should return him to the shelter so Dave acted like a good dog and the kids liked his game, then Josh thought Dave needed to run, Dave said he ran 5 miles to get home so he didn't need to and then Josh decided to take Dave to the dog park and Dave started barking while saying he had important things to do and that he wouldn't go to the dog park, in the park, all the dogs wanted to smell Dave's butt and Dave wondered if there was anyone in the park who hadn't smelled his butt, one of them asked Dave if he wanted to sniff his butt to which Dave said maybe later and wanted to ask them if they had heard of a man who turned into a dog but Josh threw him a Frisbee and Dave went after him, he jumped and caught it in his mouth, then Dave realized that he liked to play like a dog, when Dave returned he was surprised at how powerful his canine instinct was and that he couldn't control it, then he found Josh with his theater partner Tracy and Josh showed her that he had a dog, Dave wanted to continue withwith his conversation with the other dogs but Josh threw the Frisbee again and Dave went for it and was impressed when he achieved it only with his mouth, when he returned he found Josh sad because of his conversation with Tracy, in the laboratory Shaggy had been locked in a cage and they put a muzzle on him, Gwen and Larry thought he was a stupid dog and asked him if he would be good to which he shook his head, Larry went for a cane and Gwen went for a needle.
When Dave and Josh got home, Rebecca and Carly were waiting in the dining room, Josh asked about dinner and Rebecca said that Dave promised to make dinner and they had waited for him for 1 hour, then Dave realized that she was angry, he looked at her and sniffed her and he was sure she was angry, Carly asked Rebecca if Dave hadn't sent her an email and then Dave had the idea of using his computer to tell them that he was a dog, he ran to his studio, took a pencil with his mouth and started typing on his computer, Carly and Josh arrived and thought Dave was playing while he was looking up short words and wrote that he couldn't make dinner because he had turned into a dog but Carly closed the computer, then Dave put on his glasses with his nose so they would recognize him but Carly and Josh thought he was playing and that he could have escaped from the circus, Dave asked the kids to realize that their dog was also their father, Rebecca arrived and Dave wanted her to recognize him but she didn't realize that her dog was her husband and his owners decided to order food since they thought Dave would take a while to arrive which left Dave sad since his family did not know that Dave was a dog and they had adopted him as their pet, when it was time to sleeping, Rebecca left Dave in the garage and told him that she would let him sleep inside the house but that Dave would complain about Shaggy sleeping there and Dave was struck by the irony of the situation since he was Shaggy, Rebecca laid out a blanket and a towel for Dave to sleep on and Dave took a ball to bite, Rebecca says goodbye and leaves, Dave started barking at him to apologize for not making dinner and telling her that he loves her, Rebecca smiled at him and left, Dave started biting the ball and fell asleep, Dave woke up at 3 a.m. and while he slept he had become human, Dave didn't know that he had turned into a human so he continued behaving like a dog and started biting the ball but then he realized that he had turned into a human and was happy, being naked, he covered himself with the towel and went to his room, when he entered Rebecca woke up and asked him where he had been and was surprised to see him naked, Dave accepted like a good dog and a good man that Rebecca was angry and he told her that there was a simple but difficult explanation to accept and told his owner and wife that he had turned into a dog but Rebecca didn't believe her husband was her dog and kicked Dave out of the room, Dave went on to live his new life having transformed into a dog and was happily adopted by his family, becoming the family pet, Dave kept the fact that he was a dog a secret and began to investigate his transformation while his owners did not know that he was their pet.
At work, Dave thanked Lori for returning his car after he turned into a dog at the shelter, Dave wanted to get information on how he was able to transform into a dog so he asked Lori to do research on men and dogs and he asked her if she heard of a man turning into a dog and she joked that everyone did it in the background and she asked Dave why he wanted that information but Dave kept it a secret that he was a dog, Dave met up with Ken and they talked about Dave's behavior and that he disappeared for the rest of the day like a human not knowing that Dave was a dog and that he disappeared like a human since he was busy being his family's dog, Dave apologized and said he got sick to his stomach and was delirious, they got into an elevator together with a man with a dog, the dog knew that Dave was also a dog so he sniffed his butt, the dog started barking so his owner told him to sit and Dave thought the man was talking to him so he obeyed the order, then he stood up and started talking when his dog tongue came out to hang but he manages to control himself, the trial continues and Forrester started talking about mutated animals that acted like dogs, Dave became suspicious of this information while his canine behavior was present, then Forrester told Dave that he saw Shaggy and Dave believed that Forrester could tell the truth, then Dave finished interrogating him and they took a break.
Dave goes with Rebecca to talk to Josh's teacher because he was doing poorly in school, Dave thinked the problem was that they don't spend much time together, then the teacher started eating a sandwich and Dave wanted to try it but he managed to control himself, he continued talking with her when he saw a cat in the window, the cat realized that Dave was a dog and growled at him so Dave allowed his canine instinct to take control and went out to chase him, Rebecca and the teacher were surprised to see Dave suddenly come out not knowing that he was listening to his canine nature, Rebecca told the teacher that Dave was a good father and she believed her while Dave ran in front of the classroom window, Dave chased the cat towards the street, avoiding the cars, then a shelter vehicle passed by, then Dave decided to get on all fours, he jump on the hood and ran to catch the cat, went through a bush, jumped over a gardener and came to a yard with sprinklers and got wet completely, then Dave got thirsty so he stuck out his dog tongue, drank water and continued with the chase, he passed by a car and hit an old woman causing her to fly into a tree, he came to a street full of people, jumped on a table of food and grabbed a bread with his mouth, then he came to a road and was almost run over by his neighbor and he was so surprised that he dropped the bread, he saw that a garbage truck was coming and he kept running, they came to an alley and Dave was happy, stuck out his tongue and told the cat that he managed to catch him, the cat entered a pipe and Dave caught him excitedly so he put his hand in to grab him but the cat scratched him and ran away, Dave recovered quickly and continued to obey his canine behavior, then Dave's canine nature was strong enough and he transformed back into a dog, Dave looked at himself in a puddle of water and put his dog paw in the puddle which made the water move and Dave took his dog shape, when the water calmed down Dave looked at himself in the puddle and saw that he had transformed into a dog, then the cat revealed that he didn't do anything so Dave asked him why he ran away, then men from the animal shelter showed up and caught them without knowing that Dave turned into a dog, in the laboratory Gwen and Larry told Kozak that they thought they had the serum ready, they had injected a hare with the serum 2 days ago and there were no side effects, Kozak shouted that he did it and that they should prepare the serum for Strictland.
Carly, Josh and Trey arrived at the shelter to look for Dave and then they found him, Dave told them that he was happy to see them and that the dog that was with him sold him for 3 biscuits, the kids didn't know that their dog had been busy being their father after falling asleep and then was busy being their dog again after chasing a cat so they asked Dave where he had been and that they had been looking for him and Dave said he was waiting for them to come get him at the pound, then Josh took Dave to his American football game and Dave was excited that Josh took him to see him play, in the game, Dave asked the coach to put Josh in the game but when the coach did Josh told him that he shouldn't do it which confused Dave, the coach told him that he should play but Josh thought he would ruin it but the coach told him that they were winning by a huge margin, Josh walked onto the field and Dave encouraged him, telling him he could sniff the other team's fear and also a hot dog and a puddle, Josh's team planned a play but he didn't know what to do and after a bad play Josh left the field, two teammates make fun of him, Dave barked at them and they ran away scared, Josh thanked Dave and Dave wanted to buy Josh an ice cream but Dave was a dog so he had paws and he was naked so he didn't have a wallet, Tracy arrived and Josh revealed that he hated football and that he was failing his classes because he wanted to be in a musical but he believed that his father wouldn't accept that without knowing that his father was with him being his dog, Dave felt bad when he saw that his owner thought he didn't accept what he liked and wondered what kind of father he was.
At home, Dave found Carly with Trey, Dave stopped them from kissing and observed that they were talking about Forrester, Carly proved to be brave about the case and Dave was proud and he licked her, then Carly mentioned that she and Trey stole Shaggy and Dave found out that Carly stole Shaggy and lied to him so he started barking, then Trey threw a toy at Dave and he happily went to get it, Dave left the room, grabbed the toy and Trey closed the door, Dave wished he could stop acting like a dog and then Josh arrived singing which Dave enjoyed, Josh told Carly he would order pizza since Dave and Rebecca went out to dinner, Dave wondered why Josh said he and Rebecca went out to dinner and then Dave realized he had forgotten their anniversary and ran to see Rebecca.
Rebecca was at the restaurant having glasses of water while waiting for Dave, a single woman told her that she should have brought a book and that they were best friends with a single woman, Rebecca showed her her wedding ring and told her that she wasn't single and then she said In a low voice that she was not yet single, Dave arrived at the restaurant with a bouquet of roses in his mouth and said that he had arrived late, plus he was a dog so he couldn't go in so he stayed outside contemplating the beauty of his wife, then Rebecca looked his husband and Dave apologized to his owner and wished her a happy anniversary, Rebecca picked up her dog and they went home, in the car, she sent a voicemail to Dave believing he was trying to push her away and she thought Dave was playing a prank by sending Shaggy with roses in his mouth and hung up, then she started crying and told Dave that she believed he was trying to get away from her, Dave gave Rebecca the unconditional affection of a pet and Rebecca hugged him while she wondered if the situation would end with Dave somewhere and her hugging her dog without knowing that Dave had stopped being a man to be a dog which had allowed him to spend time with her and that he had not shown up to their anniversary as her husband because he had become her dog and had gone to see her as her pet and that he loved her, Dave promised Rebecca that he would find out how he had turned into a dog and that he would fix it and he would be a better man, he told her that he loved her and growled which made Rebecca believe that Dave should use the bathroom, Rebecca leaves Dave in the garage and Dave felt bad about the problem in his life, he knew he was the dog his owners deserved but he was a terrible man for his family and that he had to fix it and fell asleep, Dave took his human form and woke up at 3 a.m., he had a plan to solve everything and decided to show his owner and wife that he had been her dog all along and while Rebecca was sleeping he left her a note promising to explain everything and rose petals (which he took from his neighbor's garden) forming the phrase "I LOVE YOU" and he went to talk to Ken, when Dave arrived he told Ken that he thought Kozak could have framed Forrester but Ken says that Forrester will give up and that Ken would take on the case since the members of the trial believed that Dave had gone crazy without knowing that Dave was a dog and he was busy being his family's pet, Ken closed the door and left Dave alone so Dave decided to be the man and the dog who would find out what was going on.
Dave went to Grant & Strictland and started sniffing around to find an entrance, then he sniffed out a vent and thought he could use it (making Shaggy and the mutated animals aware of the presence of another sacred dog), Dave opened the vent and tried to get in but it was too big for him like a human, fortunately Dave saw a homeless man and it occurred to him to behave like a dog to transform and be able to enter, so he paid the homeless man to throw a stick so that Dave would act like a dog and want to play and transform into a dog, the homeless man accepted and threw the stick away so Dave let his canine instinct take control and went for the stick on all fours, he took it with his mouth and brought it, Dave had almost managed to transform into a dog so he asked the homeless man to throw it again and tell him to catch it and he told him that he would bite him if he didn't, the homeless man was confused by Dave's canine behavior but agreed to do it, he threw the stick and told Dave to catch it, Dave ran after it and caught it in his dog form, Dave was happy to have transformed into a dog and was surprised that his plan had worked so he thanked the homeless man and he left being a winning dog while the homeless man was surprised to see Dave transform into a dog, Dave walked to the vent and tried to get in but forgot to let go of the stick, he realized and let it go, he tried to get in and he got in perfectly like a dog, Dave proceeded to follow his dog nose and began to sniff to guide himself through the ducts, then he sniffed something and wondered what it was but then he realized it was himself, finally, Dave found a vent and lay down to see and then he discovered that they had used Shaggy's DNA to create the serum of immortality, then sees Kozak inject Strictland with what he thought was the serum of immortality but in reality it was a paralytic that left him immobile for months, Kozak revealed that he wanted to take control and get rich and he promised Gwen and Larry their parts, at that moment, Dave started running outside and Kozak, Gwen and Larry hear that there was something in the ducts, Dave came out quickly and realized that he was right about Kozak planning something and that Carly was right about the innocence of Forrester, Dave ran to his car and tried to get in to go home but failed so he decided to run home, Kozak, Gwen and Larry reviewed the recordings and discovered that Dave was a sacred dog as Shaggy and had received the miracle of transforming into a dog, Kozak eliminated the recording and sent Gwen and Larry after Dave, soon the sun rose and Rebecca woke up, then found the note and the petals that her Dave left her and she realized that her husband loved her without knowing that he had been with her as her dog.
Dave rushed home to tell what he saw, at home, Carly told Josh about Dave's note and that she thought Dave and Rebecca were getting divorced, then Dave came home while remaining in his dog form, rang the doorbell and Josh answered the door, when Dave came in he told Carly that she was right about Forrester being innocent and he went to take a nap and asked them not to wake him up until he was human but then Dave heard Carly's idea that he and Rebecca were getting divorced and that Dave was trying to get away from them and she thought it would happen since Dave didn't come home as a human the night before, although that had stopped surprising her, not knowing that Dave had received the miracle of becoming a sacred dog of immortality and that he decided to leave his human body to be with them in his dog body and be their pet which had allowed him to reconnect with them, Dave didn't want the kids to believe that, so he ran into the living room, jumped on the couch, grabbed the Scrabble and wrote "I'M DAD", then Carly and Josh discovered that Shaggy was Dave and that he had not been at home like his father since he had been with them since he had become their pet, then Dave wrote "GRANT AND STRICTLAND" and Carly remembered that Forrester had said that animals mutated and Shaggy bit Dave and they realize that Dave had turned into a dog with Shaggy's bite, Carly thought it was her fault that Dave was a dog and apologized to him but Dave was happy to have turned into a dog and told Carly that she didn't have to apologize, Dave licked her, Carly petted him and went to call Rebecca to tell her that Dave was their dog, then Josh realized that Dave had been with him at the game in his dog form and told him that he didn't mean to fool him but that he was a bad player, Dave told him that he wasn't true, that he was good and he went for Josh's backpack and gave him his books showing him to accept what Josh wanted to do, Carly left a message for Rebecca and then Dave heard with his dog's ears that someone had peed in the garden so he ran to stop it, Dave saw that it was his neighbor's dog and jumped to stop him but Gwen and Larry appeared and electrocuted him to catch him, Dave was stunned and Gwen and Larry put him in the trunk of his car and fled while Carly and Josh tried to reach them to save Dave.
In the laboratory, Dave was locked in a cage and Kozak started making fun of him and told him that they wanted to know how was Dave able to transform into a sacred dog like Shaggy and later planned to eliminate him, then Kozak put his finger in the cage and Dave bit it, perfectly transferring his canine DNA which could perfectly enter the bloodstream, Dave laughed at him and Kozak told him that he would return later to eliminate him and left to win the trial but while Kozak was leaving the mutation began to take effect and his body began to itch, the humans left and the animals were left alone, then Dave started talking to Shaggy from dog to dog and asked him who he was, Shaggy revealed that his name was Khyi Yang Po and that he was from Tibet, Dave asked him why he had bitten him to which Shaggy said that he thought that Dave could help him, Dave asked him how he could help him being a dog too, Shaggy realized that he didn't think it through well and the mutated animals began to talk to Dave, he mentioned that he was able to transform into a human when he fell asleep but had no time to sleep but the animals revealed to him that meditation would also transform him into a human, Carly and Josh called Trey and went to rescue Dave, the animals began to meditate while concentrating on their canine nature, Dave learned that to transform into a dog he needed adrenaline and to transform into a human he had to calm down, he learned to control himself and concentrated on his canine nature, he imagined he was on the beach, was surrounded by fire hydrants to urinate, food everywhere, the waves were made of beef sauce and a whale made of peanut butter, then he opened his human eyes and the animals saw him transform into a human, Dave was glad he became human but he was still locked in the cage, he saw the keys to the cages and tried to reach them but his cage fell, so Dave spoke to the snake who responded with a bark and Dave said that they would throw away his box so he could go get the keys, first Dave led a chimp to push the cage of some rabbits and then he guided the rabbits to jump and then they managed to knock over the snake box and he was free, the snake crawled up to the keys, slid them down his body and gave them to Dave, then he said they could leave which made everyone happy, Dave put on a lab coat and helped the animals escape through the ducts, Dave tried to escape but Gwen and Larry electrocuted him and locked him up but the snake saw what happened and told the animals, Shaggy went out and was found by Carly, Josh and Trey and they thought it was Dave so they took him to Rebecca, Gwen and Larry told Dave to be a good doggie and prepared a needle to inject himself but then the chimp electrocuted them, Dave took Larry's clothes, escaped with the animals and they drove away in Dave's car.
Carly, Josh and Trey came to Rebecca and told her that Dave was a dog and they tried to get Shaggy to do something to show Rebecca that it was true but they failed, then Dave called Rebecca and the kids realized that they had Shaggy, Dave revealed the truth about Shaggy while the animals were making mischief in his car, Dave told Rebecca to see him in court in a suit for him and hung up, Dave told the animals to behave like the snake who was the only one who was well behaved and only stuck his head out the window, barked and stuck out his tongue happily which made Dave feel strange, Rebecca remembered when Dave told her that he was a dog and they all went to court, Dave and the animals were close to reaching the court when they almost crashed against a stopped car, scaring everyone, then they realized they were in a traffic jam on a bridge, the trial started and Kozak was ready to win, Dave got out of the car and told the animals that he had to leave them and promised to come back soon, Dave started running between the cars to get to the court, while running, Dave showed that he had transformed from a workaholic man to a sacred superhero dog close to his owners and that he had learned to control his powers and his heart rate increased rapidly which made Dave want to listen to his canine behavior so he decided to transform, he began to run on all fours, releasing his canine nature and took his dog form with his robe having become a cape, showing the superhero dog that Dave was proud to be, he jumped on top of the cars and ran on them, then he jumped off the bridge and started falling like he was flying, just like Buzz Lightyear and said "To infinity... and beyond!", he landed on a bus and went to court being a superhero dog, Dave arrived at the court remaining in his dog form and was reunited with his owners and Shaggy, the sacred dogs began to talk with barks and Rebecca discovered the truth, she realized that Dave had been her dog the whole time and that he had left his human body to be in his dog body and be with her as her pet, at that moment, Dave barked at his owner that he loved her and she understood what he said, Dave told Rebecca again that he loved her and he calmed down allowing him to take his human form, he kissed her and entered the trial, the judge was already tired of Dave's canine behavior without her knowing that he was busy going from a workaholic to a loving man with his family and a proud sacred dog close to his owners, but Dave managed to get a chance, Dave tried to show that Kozak was guilty while they acted like dogs, they took Dave away but he managed to come back and made Kozak act like a dog, then Kozak grew a dog's tail, showing that Dave's canine DNA spread perfectly and that Kozak was guilty, with this Kozak was arrested and Dave won the trial for Forrester, finally the people at the trial understood that Dave's behavior was due to the fact that he had transformed into a dog and that he was right, upon leaving, Ken apologized to Dave and they saw that the mutated animals crashed Dave's car in front of the court and Dave asked Ken to help them which Ken accepted, Dave returned to his family and then realized that becoming a sacred dog and his family's pet was his destiny and what he needed to learn to be a true man for his family and was proud to have received the miracle of becoming a dog of immortality and the pet that his owners deserved, happily and proudly assumed his new life as the family pet and as a true family man, Rebecca, Carly and Josh were happy to have Dave as a man again and they were happy that he had also become their new dog and happily adopted him as their pet, then Dave announced that they would go on vacation to Hawaii as he promised, on the beach, Dave was kissing Rebecca enjoying the vacations with his family and Shaggy who will be returned to Tibet and the Douglas family would miss him, Shaggy was surfing and Dave said he was a 300 year old dog riding the waves and encouraged his canine companion, Dave and Rebecca started talking about how they would miss Shaggy, fortunately for the Douglas family, Dave had become their new dog and a dog lover, Dave was proud to have transformed into a sacred dog and his family pet and went on to live his new life having been happily adopted by his family and having become their new pet, being the dog and man that his owners deserved, having fun with them as their pet and freely behaving like a dog whenever he wanted, then Josh attracted Dave's attention and they played as owner and pet, Josh threw a Frisbee for his dog to catch and Dave got excited to see his owner throw the Frisbee so he went from being the father of the family to the family pet and chased the Frisbee while Rebecca watched her son and her dog play together, Dave jumped up, screamed that he had it, and caught it in his mouth showing the big dog he was (perfect for a postcard) and Dave enjoyed his vacation with his family being their pet.
