David Louis Newman is an American film and stage composer, conductor, and orchestrator. He has composed scores for nearly 100 feature films, such as Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure, Throw Momma from the Train, The Sandlot, Coneheads, The Nutty Professor, Anastasia, Ice Age, The Spy Next Door, and many others.

He is the cousin of fellow composers Randy Newman and Thomas Newman.

His Disney compositions include The Brave Little Toaster, DuckTales the Movie: Treasure of the Lost Lamp, The Mighty Ducks, Operation Dumbo Drop, and 102 Dalmatians. He also wrote the score for Touchstone Pictures films, such as Disorganized Crime, Mr. Destiny, and Paradise. Additionally he composed Miramax movies, such as Duplex. He will also write the score for the 2021 film version of West Side Story.



  • To date, he is the only member of the Newman chain who has yet to compose the score for a Pixar film.
