Dawkins is fed up with being underappreciated.
Dylan and Dolly go to a worker's protest with their parents. When they ask who is watching the house, the siblings tell them that Dawkins was put in charge as they trust him. Back at the house, Dawkins is shown to be overworked by the other puppies and is having trouble keeping everything tidy. Dylan and Dolly come back to ask Dawkins to help make them picket signs to help with the protest, only for Dawkins to finally break down and angrily tell them that he does not get enough respect for doing their work. Dylan and Dolly laugh this off and assume that he is simply having a bad morning. Fed up, Dawkins decides to leave the house so that he can enjoy himself. Dawkins quickly discovers that he does not know how to relax and misses having something to do. The Canal Crew show up and decide to help him grow accustomed to being lazy.
Meanwhile, Dylan and Dolly realize that they are not as well versed in fixing the machinations that run the house. After failing to discover the issues, Dylan goes off to find Dawkins and asks him to come back home. However, the Canal Crew convince Dawkins to ignore Dylan when he refuses to answer to his demands, causing Dylan to storm off in a huff. Dylan returns home to find the house in worse shape after Dolly tried to fix some of the machines. The Dalmatians are all forced to hide in Dylan's tree house. The Canal Crew finally get Dawkins to relax as he finally overcomes Dylan and Dolly's constant demands.
Dolly arrives to finally beckon Dawkins back. Before Dawkins can do anything, the Canal Crew have Dylan and Dolly set up a new system for him. Despite them admitting that they cannot do anything without him and care about his needs, Big Fee steps in for her "client" to get more respect along with "extra kibble, regular lamp post breaks and seven slabs of premium cheddar" (the latter of which is her cut). They agree and Dawkins directs the two on how to fix the machinations. Everything is restored as Dylan, Dolly and Dawkins rest. However, Dylan and Dolly remember that they are going out with friends and once again leave Dawkins to take care of the house.
