"Demon Pigeons Attack" is the tenth episode of the Disney+ series Percy Jackson and the Olympians. It was released on December 10, 2025, and is the second episode of season two.
Synopsis[]
Percy and Annabeth contend with a new activities director as they try to locate Grover.
Plot[]
Percy and Annabeth hatch a plan to get the word out on Thalia's tree being damaged when they notice Stymphalian birds flying close by. Percy, who was supposed to be quartered, lets himself be known to Tantalus's presence, allowing Annabeth to sneak into Chiron's office. Using the Iris messaging system, she contacts Chiron who reveals that he is in Miami, Florida with his relatives. He explains that Percy is part of a great prophecy and that he, by no means, must go after the Golden Fleece, adding that Annabeth must also not let him know about what is happening.
When Tantalus confronts Percy, he reveals that despite being grounded to his quarters, he is allowed to take part in public camp activities such as the chariot race, much to Tantalus's chagrin. Annabeth only tells Percy that she has to win the race and suggests that they race separately. Percy later learns that Tyson is an expert at building and fixing things and helps create a chariot for the two of them to ride for the race.
Before the race starts, Annabeth tells her partner Bronte to attack Percy's chariot if it gets too far ahead, something Tyson overhears. Clarisse attacks the Hephaestus kids' chariot just before the race starts and one by one each chariot goes down. As the race continues, Stymphalian birds break through the barrier and attack the campers, though Clarisse still manages to finish the race. With Annabeth and Tyson's help, Percy uses a boombox playing Mariah Carey's "Emotions" to scare the birds away, saving the camp.
Afterwards, Tantalus spitefully reveals the dream "he" had about the Golden Fleece and chooses Clarisse to be the one to go on the quest because she finished the race and wasn't a "coward". Clarisse picks Annabeth and, while she was willing to accept Percy, Annabeth urges her to pick someone else. She ultimately chooses Chris Rodriguez, whom she attempted to get close with earlier. Tantalus warns that due to the barrier falling down, any camper who attempts to leave will be shot on sight. Percy is upset and further hurt when Tyson reveals that he overheard Annabeth's conversation with Bronte.
Percy later has another dream with Grover who, clad in a wedding dress, reveals that he is in the domain of Polyphemus. He further tells him that he shouldn't be mad at Annabeth as she most likely had a reason for why she did what she did. Percy tells Tyson he is leaving on his own and heads to the edge of the bay where he is "approved" by his father to go on his quest, via a visit from Hermes. Percy deduces that Hermes wants him to "save" Luke, but believes he is beyond saving. Hermes gifts Percy a thermos full of wind and vitamins that will "make you feel like yourself".
Annabeth learns from Tyson what Percy is doing and runs to him before he leaves. She admits that she is upset over hiding secrets from him and that she had been lying about enjoying things in the real world as she is too far removed. Tantalus, who was informed by his assistant, arrives to the bay in an attempt to kill them for their disobedience, but Tyson arrives and saves them. The three escape on a speed boat towards a cruise ship in the distance. Annabeth frets over breaking the rules, but Tyson is proud about being on a real quest.

Book comparisons[]
- The book goes into greater detail over Tantalus's inability to eat. The food literally gets up and runs away from him.
- Percy was already allowed to be part of the chariot race instead of being confined to his quarters like in the show.
- Annabeth talks to Chiron privately on the Iris Message where he tells her about the Great Prophecy and that Percy is not supposed to know. In the book, both Percy and Annabeth talk to Chiron while he is still at the camp and no mention of the Prophecy is made.
- The character of Charles Beckendorf is absent, though a boy who is potentially him is supposed to be one of the two Hephaestus charioteers.
- The song used to defeat the Stymphalian birds is "Emotions" by Mariah Carey. In the book, it was the all time hits of Dean Martin.
- Clarisse openly has a crush on Chris Rodriguez. In the book, this isn't made known until The Battle of the Labyrinth.
- Clarisse chooses Annabeth Chase and, at Annabeth's suggestion, Chris Rodriguez to join her on her quest. The book seems to outright ignore this detail, with her instead using the undead soldiers from the get go.
- In the book, Percy was simply relaxing on the beach when he is surprised by the appearance of Hermes (the first time he meets him), along with his caduceus George and Mary. The series has Percy already attempting to leave camp by asking Poseidon first before Hermes (whom he has met previously) shows up to "approve" his quest. George and Mary are absent however.
- Percy, Annabeth, and Tyson get on a speed boat towards the Princess Andromeda. In the book, they call upon Hippocampi to get them there.
- In the series, Tantalus tries to kill Percy and Annabeth for leaving camp. In the book, he threatens anyone who attempts to leave, but makes no attempt to actually stop anyone.
Trivia[]
- The title comes from the sixth chapter of The Sea of Monsters, while the episode adapts the remainder of that chapter and chapter five, chapter seven, and the first part of chapter eight.
- This episode is dedicated to Danny Virtue who was a stunt coordinator for the series.
- This is the first episode to feature Kevin Chacon as Chris Rodriguez, having replaced Andrew Alvarez from the first season.
- The song used to get rid of the demon pigeons swarming Camp Half-Blood is "Emotions" by Mariah Carey.
