Dennis Day was an American singer and radio, television, and film personality of Irish descent.
For Disney, he voiced Johnny Appleseed, Johnny's Angel, and the narrator in the "Johnny Appleseed" segment of Melody Time. He also sang "The Unbirthday Song" from Alice in Wonderland on his RCA Victor Records Little Nipper LP, Birthday Fun as Told and Sung by Dennis Day. Additionally, he narrated and sung in his RCA Victor Records Little Nipper LPs, Walt Disney's Snow White and Dopey, and Walt Disney's Snow White and Sneezy.
Primarily a singer and radio voice, Day was famous for his work on The Jack Benny Program, where he played a "naive boy" frequently until 1965. He also performed impressions on the show, which included Ronald Colman, Jimmy Durante, Jerry Colonna, and James Stewart. In addition, he collaborated with fellow Disney actress Verna Felton, who played his overbearing mother. He would eventually receive his own radio program, A Day in the Life of Dennis Day, which lasted from 1946 to 1951 while continuing his work with Jack Benny.
Day attempted to get his radio show televised episodes several times, but with no success. Despite this, he appeared in shows where he sang and acted, such as The Gisele MacKenzie Show, The Bing Crosby Show, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. His last televised work with Benny was in 1970, when they appeared in a public service announcement together to promote savings and loans.
