Rose Diane Ladner, better known as Diane Ladd, was an American actress. She was primarily known for her roles in movies, such as Chinatown, Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore, Wild at Heart, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, and Ghosts of Mississippi. Her television credits included Perry Mason, Hazel, Gunsmoke, City of Angels, Alice, Enlightened, and Chesapeake Shores.
For Disney, she played Mrs. Nightshade in Something Wicked This Way Comes. For Touchstone Pictures, she played Lucille Rubin in The Cemetery Club, and for Hollywood Pictures, she played Rita in Father Hood. For Miramax Films, she played Ruth's mother in Citizen Ruth, and Jewel in Daddy and Them (both films co-starred her daughter Laura Dern). For 20th Century Studios, she played Etta in Black Widow, and Mimi in Joy.
She also had numerous acting roles on ABC, including parts in Naked City, The Detectives, 77 Sunset Strip, The Fugitive, Shane, The Big Valley, The Devil's Daughter, The Walter Winchell File, The Love Boat, Grace Kelly, Celebration Family, Father Dowling Mysteries, Rock Hudson, Grace Under Fire, and Kingdom Hospital.
She died of Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis 26 days before her 90th birthday.
