Dick Vermeil is the new head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles in the 2006 biographical drama Invincible.
Background[]
At the time of the movie, he was just hired by the Eagles after his successful college head coach career at UCLA. He is being pressured by the city to make the Eagles a good football team after their previous failures. He decides to hold open tryouts. He becomes impressed at the performance of Vince Papale and invites him to training camp to try and earn a roster spot. He acts against the advice of his assistants decides to give the roster spot to Vince. After losing all their preseason games and losing the home opener against the rival and defending NFC champion Dallas Cowboys he gets pressured by the fans and media. However, this begins to shift after Vince scores a touchdown on a fumble which leads to the Eagles their first win of the season. During the credits, it is revealed he brought the Eagles to the Super Bowl against the Oakland Raiders a few years after Vince's tenure with the Eagles.
