Starting in 2016, Disney and Dole began a partnership where Disney promoted their upcoming movies with different banana sticker sets appearing on Dole bananas and other Dole products.

In 2020, when Disney delayed their entire slate of upcoming theatrical releases, Disney transitioned the banana stickers away from promoting specific upcoming theatrical Disney movies to mega-sets. The first mega-set was Pixar. This was followed by a Disney Princess mega-set. The third mega-set was the Marvel Healthy Heroes set. It didn't directly promote a specific movie, but included heroes not in the current MCU movies, but also include characters from the 2022 movies Doctor Strange, Thor, and Black Panther.

In fall 2023, the Dole banana stickers featured a pair of Dole specific generic characters as part of a back-to-school promotion. A male banana character named Bobby, and a female pineapple character named Pinellopy. It appeared to be the end of the Disney/Dole partnership.

What seemed like the final Disney & Dole banana sticker set was for Disney's Wish at the end of 2023 and into 2024. The only themed Dole Banana stickers of 2024 were a series celebrating 125 Years of Bananas.

In February 2025 Disney Dole Banana Stickers returned with a Stitch set. The set might be to promote the upcoming live action Lilo & Stitch movie, but definitely features the animated version of Stitch and Angel.

Banana Sticker Functionality[]

The primary function of banana stickers is to tell the grocery store cashier the banana PLU, 4011, so the cashier can ring up the bananas at checkout. In more recent decades, banana stickers also include scannable barcodes.

Cartoon characters on banana stickers make bananas more attractive to kids, making it easier for parents to get kids to eat bananas instead of less healthy alternatives.
