Disney on Parade was a parade at Hong Kong Disneyland and was the park's first ever daytime parade. It opened with Hong Kong Disneyland on September 12, 2005, and continued until November 1, 2010. The parade features nine floats, with a majority of them being recycled from Disney on Parade: 100 Years of Magic at Tokyo Disneyland.
Title Float: Recycled from Disney on Parade: 100 Years of Magic is the title float, led by various dancers with ribbons. The parade's suffix is replaced with "Come and Join the Magic".
In the Let it Snow Christmas Parade, the title is changed and gains a wintery makeover.
The Band Concert:Based on the 1935 animated cartoon, and another float recycled from 100 Years of Magic. the Hong Kong Disneyland Band leads the way for a giant 8-meter-high balloon of Mickey, conducting the orchestra of music. The balloon is designed after Mickey from the respective cartoon, and his right hand moves with a baton in his hand.
In the Let it Snow Christmas Parade, the HK Disneyland Band gain a festive makeover, while Mickey wears a santa hat, scarf and swaps his baton with a candy cane.
Animation Book: Also recycled from 100 Years of Magic is this float representing the creativity and artistic styles of Walt Disney. Several artists led the float, while Chip and Dale take healm on the float itseld, featuring a large flip book of Mickey Mouse.
In the Let it Snow Christmas Parade, this float becomes Chip and Dale's Candy Factory, as it becomes a cooking area for making gingerbread treats and other Christmas goodies.
Plane Crazy: Based on the 1928 animated cartoon, and is also recycled from 100 Years of Magic. Dancers dressed up as film canisters lead the way for a film scene recording of Mickey and Minnie flying high. The side features a film studio.
In the Let it Snow Christmas Parade, this float becomes Mickey's Hollywood Christmas.
As this float appears in the Glow in the Park Halloween Parade, it didn't appear during the Autumn, with the princesses moving to the finale.
In the Let it Snow Christmas Parade, the float gains a royal festive makeover.
Alice in Wonderland: Based on the 1951 animated film, and the last of the recycled 100 Years of Magic Floats. White Rabbit and Queen of Hearts lead on foot, while dancers dressed up as flowers lead the way for the float. Alice takes the front, sitting on top of a giant mushroom. The Cheshire Cat and Caterpillar appear with her and interact with the audience.
In the Let it Snow Christmas Parade, everyone dorns Santa hats, while Caterpillar styles himself to look more like a snowman.
The Little Mermaid: Based on the 1989 animated film. Led by starfish and fish dancers, Ariel rides on a seahorse, while Flounder appears near her. This float certainly takes you "Under the Sea".
In the Let it Snow Christmas Parade, we see a seaweed Christmas tree, a Santa Hat-dorning Flounder, among other additions.
In the Let it Snow Christmas Parade, the float becomes Toy Story - Holiday Edition. Rex delivers a radio for the Little Green Men, while Mr. Potato Head dorns a Santa Hat.
Finale: The final float is an open ended replica of Sleeping Beauty Castle, and features The Sensational Six. Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse appear on the Castle Balcony, while Donald Duck, Daisy Duck, Goofy and Pluto appear inside the castle.
During the Halloween events, Snow White, Cinderella and Aurora appear on this float, while Donald, Daisy, Goofy and Pluto appear on foot.
In the Let it Snow Christmas Parade, Mickey and Minnie move to the Castle inside, while Santa Claus takes over the Balcony; although he doesn't appear in the 2007 run, so Mickey and Minnie retain their usual spot.
Development[]
Initially, Hong Kong Disneyland was originally intended to receive Disneyland's long-running Parade of the Stars, which debuted for its 45th anniversary celebration in 2000 and was replaced with Walt Disney's Parade of Dreams in 2005. However, officials ultimately decided on a different parade for the new park.
The parade was also the genesis for an epiphany of then-CEO Bob Iger which led to the $7.4 billion acquisition of Pixar Animation Studios in 2006. Iger's epiphany was that many of the characters in the parade were from Disney films that were made prior to the mid-90's with the recent characters being from Pixar's films and at that point, the Disney/Pixar collaboration was nearing its end.
In September 2010, Hong Kong Disneyland celebrated its 5th anniversary. Disney on Parade was replaced by Flights of Fantasy Parade on January 21, 2011. In June 2010, Steve Davison, the creator of World of Color in Disney California Adventure, mentions that he is currently working on a parade for Hong Kong Disneyland's 5th anniversary.[1]
'Let It Snow' Christmas Parade[]
During the Christmas season, Disney On Parade became The 'Let It Snow' Christmas Parade. The parade itself was a modified edition with Christmas additions, decorations and replacements. It first ran from November 23, 2007 through January 6, 2008 as part of the A Sparkling Christmas Holiday event. Since then, the parade has been running in each Christmas event until January 2, 2011.
Parade Song Lyrics[]
Come on, come, join your hands with us
