- “As to what we are, we've been called Ajnabi, Majnoon, Unseen... The list goes on. But what we're most commonly known as is Djinn.”
- ―Najma to Kamala Khan[src]
The Djinn are a race of beings featured in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, first appearing in the Disney+ series, Ms. Marvel. The Djinn are inhabitants, native to the Noor Dimension, with the ability to access the power of Noor, in their home world. Noor is the energy made up of their home realm, and all the Djinn have some form of it contained within themselves. They can sense its presence, and use their abilities, whilst in the Noor dimension, but these abilities are greatly debilitated, outside of their home. The Noor contained with them, can also be sensed by regular humans too.
Though they originate from the Noor Dimension, they have become well known across various times and cultures on Earth. They are not the Djinn described in folklore and religious texts, and were given their name by the inhabitants of Earth, who labelled them as such, upon their arrival.
Both Djinn and Djinn-Human hybrids are featured in the series, with the Clandestines, a group of Djinn exiled from their home world, acting as the primary antagonists in Ms. Marvel. Kamala Khan is also a Djinn-Human hybrid, featured within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

A group of Djinn, named the Clandestines, are exiled from the Noor Dimension.[1] On Earth, they retained some form of connection to the Noor, but as interdimensional beings, they are not connected to the matter of the Earthly Plane on a physical level, and their powers are greatly subdued.[2]
They group learn of a pair of bangles which they believe can help them in their return home, and find one hidden in an underground cave. Aisha, a member of the Clandestines, takes hold of it, but is separated from the others.[1]
Aisha wanders off to a village where she meets a man named Hasan. The pair fall in love and together, start a family, with Aisha keeping her past hidden away. Years pass, when Najma comes into contact with Aisha, after losing contact with her and the bangle. Aisha who has resettled into a new life, decides to flee, before Najma can take possession of the bangle, and attempts to board a train to Karachi, during the Partition of India. While leaving, Aisha showcases her abilities to her husband. Najma finds Aisha at the train station, and angered by her former friends’ betrayal, she fatally stabs her, and promises to find the bangle. Aisha uses the Noor to invoke the power of the bangle, which summons her great-granddaughter from the future.[3]
Through her lineage, her great-granddaughter, Kamala Khan is born. Kamala was born with a mutation, within her genetic code, which, combined with her mixed heritage, would potentially give her the ability to access Noor, that other Djinns couldn't, though this power remained dormant within her.[4]
During the first episode, Aamir exits Kamala's room, and asks if she would like him to turn off the light, or is she still afraid of the Djinn. Later on, Bruno Carrelli's homemade electronic device, known as the Zuzu, malfunctions in the Khan's home, and Yusuf suggests that the invention is possessed by a Djinn.[5]
When Kamala attends AvengerCon, she takes possession of her grandmother's old bangle, which seemingly holds some form of connection to the Noor Dimension. Upon wearing it, Kamala unlocks her access to the Noor, giving her powers from the Djinn's native dimension.[5]
After her new discovery, Kamala begins training her powers with Bruno. He learns that the bangle simply unlocked powers contained with her, and she speculates on where her powers originate from. The Clandestines sense the presence of Noor, and arrive in New Jersey. Najma's son, Kamran attends the same school as Kamala, and acquaints himself with her. Kamala also begins receiving visions through her bangle of a mysterious woman. When Damage Control attempts to pursue Kamala, she is rescued by Kamran, who introduces her to his mother, Najma, the woman in Kamala's visions.[6]
Kamala learns more on her family lineage and discovers the true nature of her great-grandmother, from whom she inherited her powers. She comes to learn that Aisha belonged to the Clandestines, a group also compromising of Najma, Fariha, Aadam and Saleem. Like herself, Kamran is also a Djinn-Human hybrid. Najma requests that Kamala complete Aisha's mission, in helping them return to their home, the Noor Dimension, a feat they believe to be possible, with Kamala's bangle. Kamala shares what she learnt with Bruno, and expresses the fears she faces, upon being labelled a Djinn, having grown up with concept being a scary one. After completing his own research, Bruno learns that in order to achieve interdimensional travel, the base energy of the sun is required, which could possibly leave mass destruction behind. When Kamala expresses doubt in continuing to pursue this plan, the Clandestines try to force her hand, but are arrested by Damage Control, before they can capture Kamala. Kamala also receives a vision of a train to Karachi. Her grandmother, Sana, a fellow Djinn-Human hybrid, shares with Kamala she received the same one.[1]
Kamala travels to Karachi, where her grandmother reveals that she knew of their true nature, after learning the truth from her father. Kamala also comes into contact with the Order of the Red Daggers who can sense the presence of Noor, and they introduce her to their base of operations. The group's mission is to protect humanity from the threats of the unknown, which including Djinn. Their leader, Waleed reveals that the Clandestines were labelled as Djinns, because of where they landed, and they are not the same as those described in the stories that Kamala knows of. Kamala also learns from him the that the Clandestines intend to take down the Veil of Noor, which seperates the Earth from the Noor Dimension, and should she do so, the energy of the Noor Dimension will bleed onto Earth, until nothing is left. Meanwhile, the Clandestines who were taken in the DODC Supermax Prison, escape custody (though leave Kamran behind on Najma's orders) and head to Pakistan. They find Kamala, and a battle ensues between the parties. Aadam, Saleem and Waleed lose their lives in the conflict. Kamala and Najma battle, and when the latter stabs the bangle, Kamala is thrown back in time, during the Partition of India.[2]
Kamala meets her great-grandmother, Aisha, who was left for dead by Najma after being fatally stabbed. In her final moments, Kamala promises to get Sana, her grandmother, a young child in the current timeline, onto the train. Kamala uses her powers to lead Sana back to her father, and the pair depart to Karachi. When Kamala is brought back forth to the present, she finds that the Veil of Noor has been opened. Fariha makes contact with it, but upon doing so, her flesh crystallises, and she is killed instantly. Najma decides to close it for the sake of her son, and sacrifices herself, also transferring her powers into him, in the process. Kamran's Noor abilities are activated in the form of crystalline blue projectiles, and Damage Control track him into Circle Q, where they blow the building up.[3]
Kamran escapes, and Damage Control attempt to pursue him to learn of his powers. Kamran's has little to no control of his abilities, which keep him in pain, through small bursts of Noor which he releases. Upon learning of his mothers demise, combined with Damage Control's attempts at capturing him, Kamran loses complete control, and produces large crystalline projectines in his complete vicinity. Kamala herself learns to control her abilities to new extents and manages to placate him, giving him time to escape.[4]
A week later, Kamala learns that the reason she holds access to Noor, while her family doesn't, despite their shared heritage, is because of a unique mutation she holds.[4]
Hybrids[]
Both Aisha and Najma are Djinns, known to have copulated with another human, and resulting in Djinn-Human hybrids.
- Sana Ali: Sana is the oldest known Djinn-Human hybrid, and was born to Aisha and Hasan. She is shown to have some form of access to the Noor, which grants her powers, as she was able to manipulate the Hard Light, that Kamala created during the Partition of India. Sana was told about her lineage by her father, sometime after her mother's disappearance.

- Muneeba Khan: Muneeba is the daughter of Sana Ali, and the granddaughter of Aisha. Whilst she was made aware of her family's lineage, she didn't believe in her mothers claims and displayed no powers of her own. She learnt the truth, after discovering that her daughter was the masked heroine of Jersey City, known as "Night Light".
- Aamir Khan: The son of Muneeba, and the great-grandson of Aisha, Aamir has no access to Noor.
- Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel: The daughter of Muneeba, and the great-granddaughter of Aisha, Kamala has the ability to access Noor.
