Doctor Frankenollie is a mad scientist monkey that appeared in the 1995 short Runaway Brain. He attempts to switch the brain of his monster, Julius, with that of Mickey Mouse.
Appearances[]
Runaway Brain[]
Frankenollie puts an ad in the newspaper promising to pay his employer $999 and 99 cents. Mickey answers the ad and heads over to the address. Mickey is sucked into an underground laboratory and captured. Frankenollie then informs Mickey of his sadistic plan; to switch his brain with that of his monster Julius. During the brain switch, he attaches helmets to their heads and activates a switch while laughing manically causing a large explosion. Mickey awakes to find himself in Julius' body and finds a charred Frankenollie and tells him to change him back but it is too late as the doctor was killed in the explosion and disintegrates in Mickey's hands.
Other appearances[]
Dr. Frankenollie was utilized in an Online Safety Flash comic series titled "Cybernettiquette " to represent those who make trouble on the internet by creating computer viruses.
Dr. Frankenollie is central to a line of action figures sold in the Disney theme parks, Disney "TRONICS" GvE, where he has built a series of giant robots based on various Disney characters, heroes, and villains, to fight each other for his own amusement.
At the Magic of Disney Animation's Minnie Mouse meet 'n' greet area was a poster for a film titled, "The Bride of Frankenollie" starring Minnie Mouse and Goofy.
Trivia[]
- Since Dr. Frankenollie is the creator of Julius, he is often cited as Julius' father.
- His name is a play on two famous Disney animators, Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston (Frank and Ollie).
- Incidentally, a documentary on the aforementioned animators, called Frank and Ollie, was released in the same year as this film.
- He bears similarities to earlier Mickey Mouse villains, including the Mad Doctor, and Professors Ecks, Doublex, and Triplex.
- Co-incidentally, Professors Ecks, Doublex, and Triplex are all monkeys whom are evil mad scientists, much like Doctor Frankenollie himself.
- Ironically, Professor Ecks was also originally considered for the role of the mad scientist in Runaway Brain, but it was later changed to a new character Doctor Frankenollie. It is heavily that Professors Ecks, Doublex, and Triplex were eventually merged into a single character.
- The backstory for the Disney TRONICS figures describes Frankenollie as owning a collection of classic Disney films.
