Dog's Best Friend is the first episode of 101 Dalmatian Street. It premiered on Disney Channel UK & Europe on March 18, 2019 and premiered on Disney XD in the United States on March 29, 2021[1].

Synopsis[]

When Dylan sees Clarissa Corgi's human waiting on her hand and paw he wonders whether he should get one to help with household chores. But he soon realizes a 'pet' is a big responsibility.[2]

Plot[]

The episode opens with Dylan in a video game-like fantasy, shooting pink goo left behind by space mutants. We see that the reality is just him cleaning the house with a vacuum cleaner as the pups leave muddy footprints on the floor. He hears a laugh and sees Dolly slide down the stair railing, yelling with delight. He remarks that she is not helping, to which she replies that she is polishing the banisters. She says she "missed a spot...again" and slides down one more time, with the other pups watching her intensely as she barks her catchphrase. Dylan is trampled by the pups as they follow Dolly, messing up the house again.

Delilah yawns, likely just woken up, and dodges the onslaught of pups as she wishes Dylan luck with the chores. She leaves for work just as Doug returns from his night shift, covered in soot. Delilah barely escapes out the door to avoid getting trampled by the pups greeting their father. Dylan complains about the mess as the soot billows off of Doug onto the floor.

Dylan is wiping the windows clean as he sees Clarissa's human vacuuming the floor as her every need is tended to. Dylan laments about not having a human "pet" to do all of the chores for him. Dizzy and Dee Dee hear his complaints, and decide to take it upon themselves to go find a human. They arrive at a coffee shop (which they call "the pet shop") and survey a few humans from afar. They find Mr. Fuzzy, swiping on his dating app and looking at girls in the area. He is sad about being unsuccessful until he hears Dizzy and Dee Dee barking and trying to bring him home.

We cut back to the house with Dylan finishing up the floor, being ushered to open the door. Dizzy and Dee Dee show Dylan the human, to which he insists that the human must leave and that he cannot be in the house. The other pups are enchanted by Mr. Fuzzy, but Dolly is skeptical. Dylan tries to tell Mr. Fuzzy to leave, but is distracted by his tummy being scratched.

Mr. Fuzzy tries to pet Dolly, but she freaks out, concerned that he may have fleas. Deja Vu questions whether Dee-Dee and Dizzy could have found a "shinier" human. Dylan, having recovered from the tummy tickle, peeps through the fence to see Clarissa being served by her human; seeing this, he figures having a human may be an educational experience for the other pups, as well as how a pet can offer unconditional love, but Dolly instantly realises that Dylan just wants them to do all the work. Dylan counters with the fact that Dolly has not been helping him with the chores, either.

Later, Mr. Fuzzy has gone into the bathroom, with Dylan thinking that he instinctively found the drinking bowl. Dolly realises what is actually up, and Dylan spins this to Mr. Fuzzy, marking his territory. When they look inside, it terrifies them, with Dolly wondering whether she will be able to use said drinking bowl again.

Mr. Fuzzy then looks at all the photos of the Dalmatians, figuring that whoever lives there is dog crazy. He then considers the fact the house is just the Dalmatians', but then brushes that idea off. He then discovers the stroking machine and activates it, sending him and Dylan flying. This amuses Dolly and she begins to warm up to Mr. Fuzzy.

Dylan then begins to try and train Mr. Fuzzy by trying to show him how to work the vacuum, but Mr. Fuzzy gets tangled in it. After Dylan helps him out (while Dolly watches and laughs), Mr. Fuzzy begins to vacuum the place, but a squeaky toy gets sucked up, causing the vacuum to explode.

Dylan then gets Mr. Fuzzy to wash the dog bowls, but Mr. Fuzzy has the sink overflow and plays with the other pups, sliding them along the wet floor. Dylan then tries to get him to mop up the floor, but Mr. Fuzzy dances with the mop, causing him to collide into a closet and a wave of squeaky toys to fall down stairs.

This noise wakes Doug up, and he realises there's a human in the house. Dylan, Dee-Dee and Dizzy explain what is happening, and Doug tries to tell Dylan what a big responsibility having a human is, particularly with how they can live to be more than a hundred, several generations for canines. Dylan states this means that once Mr. Fuzzy is trained, they can look after them for said generations. Doug also points out that humans need constant exercise and a lot of walkies in the park. Hearing the word "park" is a trigger for the other pups and they all charge out to the park.

In the park, Dylan tries to teach Mr. Fuzzy how to play fetch, but he is distracted by a vendor, whom he recognises from his dating app. Trying to get Mr. Fuzzy's attention, Dylan takes his phone and uses that to play fetch.

After playing the park, the Dalmatians and Mr. Fuzzy have a nap, but when Dylan wakes up, he finds that the food machines are out of control. Doug tries to handle the situation, but gets pelted by dog bowls and kibble. Dolly heads to shut down the kibble pump while Dylan unplugs the bowl flinger, dodging both bowls and kibble as they do.

Mr. Fuzzy, during the food machine issues, gets flung through a wall, breaking the screen on his phone. Seeing this, Doug looks at Dylan, hinting what he needs to do. Dolly, Dee-Dee and Dizzy protest that Mr. Fuzzy is part of the family now, but Dylan realises that he is not yet ready for the responsibility of raising a human. Doug suggests Mr. Fuzzy needs to be with the other humans, even if it breaks his heart, which then gives Dylan an idea to have Mr. Fuzzy follow his heart.

Dolly and Dylan then take Mr. Fuzzy's phone and lead him back to the park, arranging him to meet with the vendor, who happens to be looking at Mr. Fuzzy's profile on the dating app. The two humans hook up and while the Dalmatians watch, Dolly comforts an emotional Dylan.

Trivia[]

  • One of the photos that Mr. Fuzzy looks at is of Pongo and Perdita.
  • One of the other photos is that of Dylan's pilot design.
  • Doug being covered in soot is a possible homage to the climax of One Hundred and One Dalmatians, where the Dalmatians disguise themselves as Labradors by covering themselves in soot.
  • While this may be their first appearances, neither Clarissa the Corgi nor Hunter have any spoken lines of dialogue.
  • The episode shares its title with the one from its predecessor series, 101 Dalmatians: The Series.
