Donald and the Frog is Volume 17 of the Mickey's Young Readers Library. It is an adaptation of the folk tale The Frog Prince starring Donald Duck.
Summary[]
It's the day of the Junior Woodchucks' annual picnic, and Donald is one of the den uncles participating in the rowboat race. When the rowboat race comes up, he manages to get a good lead over the others and feels confident about winning the trophy, which resembles a small golden rowboat. However, when he stops rowing to see how far ahead he's gotten, one of his oars slips away and he can't reach it. He then suddenly encounters a large talking bullfrog who has noticed his predicament. Donald asks the frog to bring the oar over to him. The frog says he could do it, but it will not be easy since the oar is pretty big. Donald offers to give the trophy to the frog if he wins the race, so the frog agrees and brings him his oar just as the other den uncles are catching up.
Donald wins the race, but just as he's received the trophy, the frog shows up, annoyed when Donald tries to ignore him. After Huey, Dewey, and Louie notice the frog, Donald leads him away. Donald is reluctant to give up his trophy and offers to give the frog his favorite pen, but the frog reminds Donald that it was thanks to his help that the duck won the race, and that he has to keep his promise. Donald sadly keeps his word and gives his trophy to the frog. When his nephews ask him what was going on, Donald explains to them that he dropped his oar in the lake during the race, and about the promise he made to the frog. The boys, noticing how sad their uncle feels about having to give up the trophy, decide to cheer him up by giving him a specially-made award - a wooden oar with the words "Best Sport" carved into it.
