The Donkey is a character from the Disney Parks.
History[]
Developmental History[]
The Donkey was created by the animator Marc Davis. The character was created for the Tomorrowland attraction America Sings to be amongst the singing animatronic anthropomorphic animals. Said attraction would close down in the 1980s.
The donkey animatronic, along with the other animatronics from America Sings, was repurposed for the newly developed attraction, Splash Mountain.
As of 2020, Splash Mountain has been announced for closure to retheme the attraction into a Princess and the Frog-themed attraction in order to remove all references to Song of the South due to controversy surrounding the film Song of the South which the attraction is themed after.
The Donkey was replaced by Tiana for the "Gonna Take You There" sequence scene of the new attraction.
Appearances[]
America Sings[]
The Donkey appeared in America Sings when Sam the Eagle and Ollie the Owl were sitting on it's back as they were at the end of it's second musical act: "Going South". The donkey could be seen again in it's third act: "Heading West" during the musical part "Who Shot the Hole in My Sombrero?".
Splash Mountain[]
In Disneyland's Splash Mountain, the donkey was encountered in the How Do You Do? song-number when guests pass by Br'er Bear caught in one of Br'er Fox's traps to capture Br'er Rabbit.
The donkey could be seen one last time in the Zip-a-Dee-Doo-Dah song-number as a draft-donkey.
