On December 18, 2017, Cirque du Soleil announced that a new show would perform in Lake Buena Vista replacing La Nouba, which later closed on December 31 of that same year after nineteen years of performance.[1]

In November 2018, auditions were held for actors to rehearse for the upcoming Cirque du Soleil show at Disney Springs with the release date set for March 20, 2020[2]

The show was announced on August 25, 2019 in the 2019 D23 Expo where it featured concept art for the new Drawn To Life show was presented with details of the upcoming show at Disney Springs as well as the plot. It is also confirmed that the former La Nouba theater will be the same one used for Drawn To Life for its production as well as featuring animation sequences by Eric Goldberg (animator for Disney's 1992 animated film, Aladdin).

Drawn To Life was originally slated to be opened on March 20, 2020, but due to the pandemic which affected the Walt Disney World Resort, the premiere date was delayed until further notice. The show later premiered on November 18, 2021 to coincide with the Walt Disney World Resort's 50th anniversary.[3][4]

As said above, the show is an homage to Disney's history of animation which fits the show's theme.
