Edsel is a character from the 1993 Disney educational animation short Recycle Rex.

Background[]

Personality[]

While he does not speak that much, Edsel is shown to be good friends with a group of dinosaur children Rex makes along the way. Everywhere Rex leads them, Edsel and the other follow to where he goes, especially when it comes to them trying to find a solution in keeping the Earth clean. When Rex and his friends arrived at the big city at the Dino Store and realizes the importance of recycling, this inspires Edsel and his friends to help recycle and keep the planet clean, showing that he shows good citizenship in taking care of the planet through the recycling method.

Physical appearance[]

Edsel is a large ornithischian dinosaur - specifically a Stegosaurus, with indigo skin around his body. He also has a pair of pale light blue eyes as well as purple spikes protruding from his back as well as a black and white longsleeve shirt.

Role in the short[]

Edsel is first seen with the rest of Rex's friends with Rex himself narrates about the field they are standing on, while Turbo tells him that he would play soccer, just before landing on Edsel's head. After Ethel makes a positive comment about the field being green and perfect, Tucker tells his Edsel and Turbo that he would use his Book of Everything to suggest a good name for the field they are present. Edsel suggests that the field be named after him, while Knock and Ping approach the group from behind, just before being approached by an engineer riding his Trash-o-Matic dumping garbage on the field. After the engineer leaves with all the trash scattered, Edsel picks up a rollerskate which he dumped while Tucker looks on his book's entry of garbage to find a way how to recycle the garbage. After Tucker reacts to the makeshift wagon that Bunsen built using recycled objects, Edsel also reacts to what he said, just as he asks Rex to know where he should get rid of it; Rex leads his friends to take out the trash without throwing it away so that the engineer won't have to start dumping the trash on the field, suggesting his friends to find some place a town where they can get rid of the trash.

As Rex and his friends arrive at the big city, Edsel, Tucker, and Ethel follow Turbo inside the Dino Store, much to Rex's worry of telling his team to stay focused. As Turbo tries a free sample, she offers Edsel and Tucker to try the free samples, much to Turbo feeling overwhelmed of the junk received. Rex happily notices Ethel that when she reuses the bottle of shampoo, it causes less garbage from being littered, reminding him of the field Rex and his friends hang out.

Later, as Edsel and the rest of his friends are having a problem with the garbage they have, Rex realizes that the bottle he is holding is recyclable that they should learn how to reuse, especially with all the junk. Rex then borrows Tucker's book (unaware that he is still discussing with Turbo) and reads the definition of the word "recycle", leading Rex, Edsel, and his friends to recycle. Edsel then participates in the musical sequence "Close the Loop", where Rex teaches his friends the importance of recycling. He is last seen at the baseball field with the rest of Rex's friends playing baseball just before Rose encourages them the importance of recycling so that they can help clean the Earth.

Trivia[]
