Edward Bryan Andrews, Jr. was an American actor, one of the most recognizable character actors on television and films between the 1950s and the 1980. His Disney roles included Bert Shannon in the two-part Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color episode "The Young Loner", Mayor Massey in the two-part Wonderful World of Disney episode "The Whiz Kid and the Mystery at Riverton," Mr. Sampson in Now You See Him, Now You Don't, Morgan in The Million Dollar Duck, Governor Robbins in A Tiger Walks, and the defense secretary in The Absent-Minded Professor and its sequel.
Andrews was born in Griffin, Georgia and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Cleveland, Ohio, and Wheeling, West Virginia. He attended the University of Virginia, and at age 21, he made his stage debut in 1935, progressing to Broadway the same year. During this period, Andrews starred in the short-lived but very well-received military drama film So Proudly We Hail in the lead role opposite Richard Cromwell.
In 1936, Andrews debuted in the film Russian Ark. He soon had roles in other films, such as Adam's Rib, The Phenix City Story, Elmer Gantry, Send Me No Flowers, Avanti!, The Harder They Fall, These Wilder Years, Tea and Sypmathy, Tension at Table Rock, Hot Summer Night, The Tattered Dress, Night of the Quarter Moon, The Thrill of It All, The Man from Galveston, The Trouble with Girls, Sixteen Candles, and Gremlins.
Andrews also guest-starred on many television series, including Cheyenne, The Twilight Zone, The Eleventh Hour, Naked City, Gunsmoke, Rawhide, Bonanza, Alias Smith and Jones, The Wild Wild West, Ironside, The Beverly Hillbillies, Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time, Love, American Style, Bewitched, Hawaii Five-O, Charlie's Angels, The Alfred Hitchcock Hour, Sergeant Bilko, The Love Boat, The Andy Griffith Show, Fantasy Island, Three's Company, The Bob Newhart Show, Broadside, The Mod Squad, and I Dream of Jeannie.
On March 8, 1985, Andrews suffered a heart attack at his home in Pacific Palisades. He was transported to Santa Monica Hospital where he died later that day.
