The Elephant Trumpeters are the supporting antagonists/neutral characters in the 1973 Disney animated feature film Robin Hood. They serve as henchmen (though they are the least antagonistic compared to the rest of the others) and trumpeters in the army of Prince John.

Appearances[]

Robin Hood[]

The Elephant Trumpeters are first seen during the film's opening credits. Later during the movie, they are seen marching in a procession in back of the lead crocodile (who could presumably be Captain Crocodile, as he looks just like him except for wearing red shoes instead of green ones) along with the Rhino Guards and some Hippo Drummers. Two elephants drag Prince John's royal carriage along the field for him. Little John refers to them when he calls Prince John's company a 'Peanut Operation'. After Robin Hood robs Prince John, the same two elephants from before appear to drag the carriage along when Prince John orders them and the Rhinos to pursue Robin Hood. Though due to Little John stealing the solid gold hubcaps of the carriage, their king falls out and into the mud.

Some more elephants appear to march along to open the Archery Contest. A few also act as musicians to celebrate important things in the contest. In the process, they accidentally blow Sir Hiss away. During the Archery contest, a pair of elephants are watching from a tower. They fall out due to a group of guards, who were blinded by a tent, crashing into their tower. When the elephants land, one attempts to trumpet a warning to the other guards, but Lady Kluck reduces it to a sputter when she squeezes the elephant's trunk. They then aren't seen for the rest of the film, though the most likely turn their allegiance over to King Richard following his return.

Trivia[]

  • The scene where an Elephant Trumpeter tries to trumpet a warning before Lady Kluck stops him is recycled animation from The Jungle Book, where an elephant randomly trumpets before being stopped by the elephant leader Colonel Hathi.
