Ernest Goes to Splash Mountain is a half-hour TV special that premiered on August 19, 1989.[1] As its title suggests, the special was created to promote the opening of Splash Mountain at Disneyland, which occurred ten days after the special premiered. It was presented in the format of a mock news presentation and short documentary, and showed Ernest P. Worrell training to become the world’s first “Splashtronaut” (a pun of the word astronaut), which meant becoming the first person to successfully ride the attraction.
Although the special is still owned by The Walt Disney Company, it is unlikely to ever be re-released due to controversy surrounding the original Splash Mountain attraction.
