During the 2023 Destination D23, it was announced that a South America-inspired area would be replacing the DinoLand U.S.A. area at Disney's Animal Kingdom. Amongst one of the attractions was a carousel as featured in concept art of the South America-themed "land".[1]
Further details were later announced on August 15, 2024, showcasing a model of Kevin from Up being teased for the upcoming ride, making it the first ride vehicle ever made. In addition to the Kevin model revealed, other characters seen in the concept art included other characters visible, such as Nigel, Timon, Pumbaa, Kaa, Squirt, Heihei, Parce, Simba, Hathi, Jr., Eeyore, Bambi, and many others. In addition to this, it was also revealed that the ride would have a fictional backstory about a woodcarver who transformed a horse stable into a carousel to impress the town residents by carving some of his favorite animal characters from various Disney stories for guests to ride and impress them while developing the carousel.
