Ezekiel Stane is a Marvel Comics character that appears in Ironheart, played by Alden Ehrenreich.

He's the son of Obadiah Stane, aka Iron Monger, the first villain that Tony Stark fought (and the first villain to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe).

Unlike his father, he has decided to use his intelligence for good, trying to redeem the family name. It's unknown if he works for Stane Industries (or the current fate of Stane Industries), or if anyone currently working for Stark Industries (like Pepper Potts or Happy Hogan) know about his existence.

Ezekiel Stane was created by Matt Fraction and Barry Kitson.

Background[]

Ezeikiel is the son of Obadiah Stane, who he lost during his teenhood as Obadiah became the Iron Monger against Tony Stark as Iron Man. As a result of his father's death, Ezekiel took a strong dislike for technology as it was how his father died. After learning about how his father died, Ezekiel became known as Joe McGillicudd, not wanting to be part of his father's legacy and fled from the public eye.

Role in the series[]

In 2025, thirteen years after Obadiah's death, Ezekiel was still residing in Chicago, where he met Riri Williams, who helped him with his groceries. The two hung out and he revealed himself to Riri, telling her that his father Obadiah, was the first person Tony Stark ever fought as Iron Man. she revealed her knowledge of his illegal purchases and, after inviting herself into his house, demanded that he gave her the parts she needed for her newest project. Initially, Stane tried to deny his possession of the items, but folded under Williams' threat of calling the FBI on him; he reluctantly agreed to take her to his safehouse, where she'd find the technology he had been collecting. On the drive there, Stane began to cry at the prospect of having his items taken from him. Williams initially believed it to be due to her blackmail, but he dismissed it, citing how often he gets blackmailed on a daily basis - with his coworker Frank as the main example. Stane was admonished by Williams, who told him he had been born with the power to not let anyone push him around; he considered her words, and was surprised to find out Williams also enjoyed listening to Alanis Morissette when he turned on the radio.

After gaining a sudden like for technology, Stane began working on bionic experiments of his own and insisted on Riri's help by googling her location a few days later. The following day, Ezekiel implanted himself with a special computer chip, which did not work like he planned, as it malfunctioned. He asked Riri for help fixing it and she suggested improving his bio-mesh design to become a cloaking feature, to which Stane agreed.

After failing to complete the upgrades and make the mesh better as he hoped, Ezekiel was found by the Hood who experimented on him and turned Stane against Williams. Under the Hood's control, Stane had fully embraced his technology enhancements and became similar to how his father was when he fought Iron Man years earlier. His appearance had drastically changed as a result of the Hood controlling him and vowed revenge.

Trivia[]

  • The episode "We in Danger, Girl" reveals he was born in 1989, meaning he was 19 years old when his father died, which was in May 2008.
  • Ezekiel was originally going to appear as the antagonist of the first Avengers film, until Kevin Feige decided against the idea and Loki became the villain instead.[1]
