"Family Picture Day" is the second segment of the sixth upcoming episode of Ariel. It premiered on June 28, 2024 alongside "Smoothie Shake-Up" on Disney+ before making its Disney Jr. and Disney Channel premiere on July 19, 2024.
Plot[]
Ariel and Ayanna are excited for Family Picture Day. Flounder's favorite part about it is when they eat snacks together when it's over. Ayanna states that Alanna is going to give her a new hairdo for the photo. Ayanna recaps the different hair styles she got on past Family Picture Days. Ayanna decides to design her hair like a finhawk. They then head to Alanna and Ayanna's room. There, Sebastian states that King Triton and Alanna are stuck in sea traffic. So, Ariel decides to do Ayanna's hair, although the finhawk style is hard to do.
Ayanna tells Ariel and Flounder the instructions for making the finhawk style. Since there are no flexi-rods, Ariel tells Flounder to get the boinga-boinga from her room. Once he arrives with it, Ariel states that the hair can be curled with it. Ayanna tells Ariel what needs to be done, and it is soon revealed to be a little loose. So, Ariel tries to unwind the boinga-boinga and wrap Ayanna's hair tighter around it. Ariel then notices it stuck. She, Ayanna, and Flounder struggle to free it when Fernie and Lucia arrive.
Ariel decides to use seagris, which Alanna always uses in Ariel's hair when it gets tangled. Although Ayanna can't find it, Fernie comes back with algae jelly, which is used to get things unstuck. Ariel uses it on Ayanna, but the boinga-boinga gets even more stuck, and Ayanna's hair sticks straight up. Ariel is unsure of what to do next. After Flounder mentions it, Ayanna decides to ask Lucia to do a spell that'll fix her hair.
Lucia has some magic dust and herbs to make Ayanna's hair back to normal. However, while reciting the spell, she sneezes, causing the dust to go all over Ayanna's hair, making it colorful. Flounder has an idea about using a bucket to cover the boinga-boinga. However, Ayanna is still sad about her hair style, and decides to not be in the picture if her hair looks the way it is before swimming away. Ariel and Flounder see every picture in the hallway with Ayanna in it. Flounder states that Ayanna doesn't want to be the only one taking a picture with silly hair. After Ariel sees a picture with her, Alanna, Ayanna, and King Triton and remembers the silly hair, she gets an idea.
Ariel then finds Ayanna and tells her to go to the garden balcony for something important. Once there, she sees Ariel with the same hair as hers. Ariel states that her friends made her hair look like Ayanna's, and if she had to make her hair messy to have Ayanna in the family photo with her, she had to. Ayanna can't believe Ariel did that for her and King Triton, who has quacky popples in his beard. Alanna then arrives, revealing a dinglehopper crown. Flounder then arrives with a bucket on him. Ariel tells Ayanna that her hair doesn't change all the great things about her and how much she is loved, as that is what their family pictures are about. Ayanna thanks Ariel and calls her the best sister in the ocean. Everyone then has their picture taken by Sebastian.
