The Fantastic Four is an upcoming American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. It is scheduled to be released on July 25, 2025, and will be the thirty-seventh film of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the first film of Phase Six. It is being directed by Matt Shakman and the screenplay is written by Josh Friedman, Cameron Squires and Eric Pearson. It was produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Production
On July 20, 2019, Variety reported that Kevin Feige announced that a Fantastic Four film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in early development, even after four unsuccessful attempts at a successful movie adaptation.[2]
On December 10, 2020, the film was officially announced by Marvel Studios with Jon Watts attached to direct.[3]
On April 29, 2022, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Jon Watts had exited the project and would no longer direct the film.[4]
On June 2, 2022, Deadline reported that Fantastic Four was a top priority at Marvel Studios and that they are actively searching for directors.[5]
On July 24, 2022, it was reported that the film will be the first film of Phase 6.[6]
On July 27, 2022, in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Feige announced that the film won't be an origin story.[7]
On August 26, 2022, Deadline reported that Matt Shakman was in talks to direct the film, after Watts left the project.[8]
On September 10, 2022, it was announced at D23 that Shakman would indeed be directing the film.[9]
On September 21, 2022, Deadline reported that Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer were hired to write the screenplay for the film. Kevin Feige and Matt Shakman will now focus on casting while the script is being written.[10]
On February 7, 2023, it was reported that filming was scheduled to begin in early 2024.[11]
On March 31, 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Josh Friedman would be rewriting the film's script, replacing Jeff Kaplan and Ian Springer.[12]
On May 5, 2023, The Hollywood Reporter reported that the film was scheduled to begin production in January 2024 in London.[13]
On June 13, 2023, Disney announced they had pushed back the films release date to May 2, 2025, taking over the release date from Avengers 5. This comes in line of the ongoing writers strike in America.[14]
On October 20, 2023, in an interview with The Playlist, Matt Shakman revealed that Cameron Squires had co-written the film's script.[15]
On October 27, 2023, it was reported that the working title of the film is "Blue Moon".[16]
On November 15, 2023, Deadline reported that Pedro Pascal was in negotiations for the role of Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic.[17] Later that day, it was also reported that Javier Bardem was eyed to portray Galactus.[18]
On January 26, 2024, it was reported that filming is scheduled to begin in August 2024 in London.[19]
On February 14, 2024, Marvel Studios officially announced the cast with Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, as Reed Richards/Mr. Fantastic, Susan Storm/Invisible Woman, Johnny Storm/Human Torch, and Ben Grimm/Thing, and the film was delayed to July 25, 2025.[1]
Trivia
- Before starring as Steve Rogers/Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Chris Evans played the Human Torch in the 2005 film and its sequel Rise of the Silver Surfer.
- Also, before starring as Erik Killmonger in the MCU for Black Panther, Michael B. Jordan played the same character in the 2015 film.
- This film is set to be released 10 years after the 2015 version by Josh Trank, and 20 years after the 2005 version by Tim Story.
