"Farewell, Cruel World!" is the twentieth episode of the fourth season of the ABC/Marvel series Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the eighty-sixth episode overall.
Synopsis[]
Daisy and Simmons race against the clock to get the team out of the Framework, but not everyone is ready to leave.
Plot[]
Outside the Framework on the Zephyr One, the bodies of Simmons and Daisy are protected by Yo-Yo and the other S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. After some debating, they agree to shut off the aircraft's cloaking ability to conserve Simmons' and Daisy's bodies connection to the Framework, which however reveals their location to Ivanov and his henchmen. Inside the Framework, Simmons finds and accidentally kills Fitz's father Alistair, which motivates Fitz to hunt Simmons down. He enlists help from Radcliffe by offering to restore his living body outside the Framework. As AIDA begins her transference into a new body outside the Framework, Daisy takes the others to the Framework's exit point (provided by Radcliffe), where they are confronted by HYDRA. During the firefight Coulson is shot, but he and May make it through. Fitz arrives and confronts Simmons and shoots her, but is overpowered by a regretful Radcliffe, and Simmons follows Fitz out of the Framework. Despite persuasion from Daisy, Mack decides to stay behind because he does not want to leave his daughter Hope behind. At Ivanov's platform, AIDA, with a new human body, manages to take advantage of Fitz's confusion and teleports him away before May can shoot her.
