The Farmyard Symphony Animals are characters featured in the 1938 Silly Symphony short Farmyard Symphony.

Background[]

Most of the farm animals consist of animals commonly found in farms - particularly livestock such as cattle, sheep, chickens, ducks, goats, or horses. Although most of them they do not speak, they utter their own "singing" through the use of animal sounds. However, whenever the farmer or his wife passes by giving out food, they would feast on the food they would give to them, giving them the signal that it is lunchtime for them.

Appearances[]

Farmyard Symphony[]

A rooster is first seen crowing to announce the morning while some pigeons wake up and hear the rooster crowing, followed by a bull waking up and later a donkey waking up a lamb who rushes to his mother, just as she happily notices that her offspring is safe. Later, the rooster wakes up a horse and her foal, followed by a mother pig and her piglets who wake up their mother while a calf drinks milk from her mother. One of the piglets becomes distracted and tries to get the milk from the cow, but the calf shoos him away into the horse pen, where she and the foal play with each other, only to hear a flock of ducks marching together across the farm.

The rooster then crows and walks across the countryside and enters a henhouse to see a bunch of hens sleeping inside. As he enters, the rooster wakes up the hens, causing them to scatter outside the henhouse as they peck on the ground together. Later, a young white hen walks out of the henhouse and approaches the rooster, trying to get his attention. The rooster follows the shy hen across the countryside, much to her shock, just as he tries to get her attention throughout the chase. The rooster then sees the hen standing on top of the fence as they both cluck to "La Donna è Mobile", as they attempt to start a relationship together. All of a sudden, the cow, her calf, two ducks and the horse drinking water from a plough hear their singing, while the donkey and some more hens hear their relationship. As the rooster and hen continue to sing together, the other hens and the donkey sing along through their own sounds by clucking and braying respectively. Suddenly, pigs, sheep, chicks, cattle, horses, ducks, and goats join in the singing by uttering their own respective sounds, just as they all arrive at the spot where the rooster is trying to attract the hen where they all sing together.

All of a sudden, a farmer and his wife give the animals their respective food, causing the livestock to feast on the food they gave to them. Later, a piglet tries eat the food from the plough, only for an adult pig to shoo him away. The piglet later attempts to eat some grains given to the hens, only for them to shoo him away and later milk from a cow only to be shooed by a calf. However, the piglet accidentally knocks over a pile of corn from a storage, causing a bunch of chicks to feast on them. The piglet is finally satisfied that he finally found something to eat as he feasts on some corn, just before the short ends.
