Benedict Timothy Carlton Cumberbatch, CBE, is an English actor, who is perhaps best known for his roles as Smaug and Sauron (both voice and motion capture) in The Hobbit film trilogy, William Ford in Steve McQueen's biographical drama film 12 Years a Slave, Khan Noonien Singh in J.J. Abrams' sci-fi action film Star Trek Into Darkness (both released in 2013), and Alan Turing in the 2014 biographical thriller film The Imitation Game (in which he received a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actor). He also portrayed Sherlock Holmes in the BBC crime drama series Sherlock, with Martin Freeman as John Watson (20102017). Additionally, he voiced Classified, the leader of the North Wind in DreamWorks' 2014 film Penguins of Madagascar, the titular character of Universal/Illumination's computer-animated film The Grinch, and provided both voice and motion capture for Shere Khan in Netflix's live-action drama film Mowgli: Legend of the Jungle (both released in 2018).

For Disney, he portrayed the titular character of Marvel's Doctor Strange, and reprised this role in Thor: Ragnarok, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame, What If...?, Spider-Man: No Way Home, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. He also played Major Jamie Stewart in Steven Spielberg's 2011 war drama film War Horse, as well as Julian Assange in Bill Condon's 2013 thriller film The Fifth Estate (both being under the Touchstone Pictures banner). Additionally, he provided motion capture for Dormammu in Doctor Strange.
