Disney Villainous is a strategy family card/board game developed by Prospero Hall and published by Wonder Forge. In this game, 2 to 6 players take on the roles of Disney Villains, each having their own unique special abilities and challenges that they have to overcome in order to complete their own objective. Once a villain's objective is fulfilled, that player is the winner.
There is currently one base set of six villains, five expansions of three villains each, and one expansion of only one villain, any of which can be played without the base game or other expansions. Initial release of base game "The Worst Takes it All" was in July 2018 and included villains, such as Captain Hook, Jafar, Maleficent, Prince John, Queen of Hearts, and Ursula. In March 2019, the first expansion pack, "Wicked to the Core", was released with three more villains, including Dr. Facilier, The Evil Queen, and Hades. In July 2019, "Evil Comes Prepared" was released, featuring Ratigan, Scar, and Yzma, followed in March 2020, with "Perfectly Wretched", including Cruella De Vil, Mother Gothel, and Pete. Then, in late February 2021, "Despicable Plots" was released with three additional villains, featuring Gaston, The Horned King, and Lady Tremaine. In March of 2022, "Bigger and Badder" was released, featuring, for the first time, Pixar villains, namely Lotso and Syndrome, as well as Madam Mim. More recently, in October of 2023, "Filled with Fright" was released, including Oogie Boogie. Soon, to be released in June 2024, "Sugar and Spite" will feature King Candy and Shere Khan.
July 2020 saw the release of a Marvel edition, "Infinite Power", with Marvel supervillains, such as Thanos, Hela, Taskmaster, Killmonger, and Ultron. Additionally, in August 2021, the Marvel edition received a first expansion pack of its own, "Mischief and Malice", which includes Loki, M.O.D.O.K., and Madame Masque. In November 2022, a second expansion pack was released called "We Are Venom", which features only one villain: Venom. In February 2023, a third expansion pack, "Twisted Ambitions", was released, including Doctor Octopus, Titania, and Kang the Conqueror.
To set up, each player should choose one of the villains included in the game. Then, they should collect their unique Villain Deck (which specifically have 30 cards, card backs matching the color of their board, and a villain’s name). It should then be shuffled and placed to the left of the villain board. There’s also a Fate Deck (which specifically have 15 cards, card backs having a white background, and a villain’s name). It should be shuffled and placed to the right of the board. Each card has a type which is indicated at the bottom. The most common card types are Allies, Conditions, Effects, Heroes, and Items. Some villains have special card types respectively including Ingredients for the Evil Queen, a Prince for Lady Tremaine, Curses for Maleficent, Transformations for Madam Mim, Relics for the Horned King, Cheats and a Prisoner for Oogie Boogie, Titans for Hades, Omnidroids and a Remote for Syndrome, and a Guardian for Lotso.
Each board has 4 pictured locations that represent the ones in which each villain’s movie came from. Each player should take their Villain Mover that represents a villain and place it onto the leftmost location. If the rightmost location has a lock symbol, a lock token should be placed there until a specific card is played in order to unlock it. Then they should collect their villain guide and a general reference sheet. In the center of the play area, the Cauldron should be filled with Power Tokens. A player who goes first will receive no tokens, but the next player in clockwise order will take one. A third or fourth player will take 2 Power each, and a fifth or sixth player will take 3 each. Finally, each player should draw a starting hand of 4 cards from their Villain Deck which they can look at, but keep secret from the other players.
In August 2019, a series of 1000-piece jigsaw puzzles based on the game was released, produced by Ravensburger. There was one puzzle for each villain, up through the "Evil Comes Prepared" villains, each with all of the game card images all together on the image to be solved. In addition, there was also a special 2000-piece puzzle released with all of the characters and cards displayed on it. In late 2021, additional puzzles were released featuring all the villains up through "Despicable Plots".
