Philip Edward "Phil" Hartman was a Canadian-American actor, voice actor, comedian, graphic artist, and screenwriter. He was best known as a cast member on Saturday Night Live (1986–1994), Bill McNeal in the NBC sitcom NewsRadio, Captain Carl in the first season of Pee-wee's Playhouse, and for voicing Troy McClure, Lionel Hutz, Charlton Heston, Evan Conover, and Lyle Lanley in the Fox animated sitcom The Simpsons from 1991 until his death in 1998.

- He was considered to voice Genie in Aladdin, along with several other actors, before the role was eventually given to Robin Williams.[citation needed]
- He was also considered to voice Buzz Lightyear in Toy Story, along with Billy Crystal, Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, Jim Carrey, and Bruce Willis, but the role was ultimately given to Tim Allen.[citation needed]
