"Toadcatcher" is the second segment of the twenty-fourth episode of Amphibia. It aired on August 1, 2020.

Synopsis[]

Sasha and Grime must reconcile their differences to escape Newtopia's most skilled warrior, General Yunan.

Plot[]

After having lost to Anne at Toad Tower, Sasha has been going through rigorous training to get revenge on her and the Plantars. She further tries to help Grime get back onto his feet, but all he wants to do is eat bugs and binge-watch Suspicion Island while growing a beard. After the rest of his army having long deserted, the only two toads that stayed with him are Percy and Braddock who also try to help Grime return to his former self, but he is unmotivated as he is in hiding for being labeled a traitor. At a nearby tavern, a boastful newt general named Yunan arrives to search for Grime and bring him in. She overhears Percy and Braddock and manages to learn of Grime's whereabouts.

Yunan arrives demanding that Grime come with her, but Sasha takes him and they flee through the woods with Yunan in hot pursuit. Grime deduces that Sasha is training, not just because she lost the fight at Toad Tower, but because she lost her best friend who stood up to her. After Grime prevents her from accidentally running off a high waterfall that prevents them from running any further, he tells her to flee as Yunan only wants him, but she refuses, revealing that she is also training because she does not want to lose another friend: Grime himself, which surprises him. When Yunan finally catches up with them, the two of them stand their ground.

Eventually, Yunan knocks Sasha down, but she exploits her boastful personality long enough for Grime to knock her over a cliff and into a river far below. Sasha and a newly invigorated Grime celebrate their victory. Grime realizes that he no longer wants to rule over the valley and instead simply try to take over the capital instead, but first he wants to continue binging Suspicion Island. Sasha realizes that she has a new destiny now and promises that she and Anne are not through with their quarrel.
