"Fixing Frobo" is the first segment of the forty-fifth episode of Amphibia.

Synopsis[]

Polly tries to bring Frobo back to life.

Plot[]

While Anne introduces the internet to Sprig and Hop Pop, Polly comes in claiming that she has fixed Frobo, using things that were laying around the garage. The outcome is ultimately not great as Frobo goes haywire and starts blasting lasers everywhere. After turning him off, Anne, Sprig and Hop Pop tell Polly that she needs to be patient and that what she did was dangerous. After Polly turns down playing with a creepy teddy bear, they tell her that she should wait until after they get back to Amphibia so that someone there can fix him instead. Polly agrees before nonchalantly and adorably asking if she can use the computer to which Anne unassumingly says yes.

Polly searches the internet for information on robotics, but comes out empty handed. She finds a video series from Ally and Jess, the IT Gals, who are experts in robotics. She begins watching them and starts to follow their instructions on how to handle robot building; becoming an expert. After she finishes, she finds that Frobo still does not work. She video chats the IT Gals who tell her that she needs to use a battery that works with it "like from those creepy animatronic toys". Against their suggestion of turning him on in a garage, Polly uses the teddy bear's battery to power Frobo up and tells Anne and her family what she is doing. When they reprimand her, she tearfully locks them out of the garage to activate Frobo.

Frobo finally comes on, but was set to his factory settings and does not recognize Polly and flies in the air to get a higher vantage point with her in tow. Anne, Hop Pop, and Sprig run outside where they are joined by Ally and Jess who were concerned about Polly after she turned off their video chat. Frobo ends up falling due to a booster malfunction and Polly apologizes for her impatience and cries. Her tear causes Frobo to remember and he tries to save Polly, resulting in them crashing into the backyard. Frobo loses his body, but his head is still active. Ally and Jess are impressed with her statistics and they and Polly converse about how to fix him. Just as Anne, Hop Pop and Sprig agree that the internet should be used for education, they get distracted by a cat video as Mr. Boonchuy runs out screaming over the damage to the backyard.

Trivia[]

  • In Anne's garage, there is a head token of Stan Pines from Gravity Falls.
  • Jess' voice actress Dana Davis previously worked on the Disney XD animated series Star vs. the Forces of Evil as Kelly.
  • Mr. Boonchuy is revealed to be an online gamer.
  • In Ally and Jess' video description, they refer to each other as "just two girlfriends" implying that they are a couple. Matt Braly had previously stated that LGBT characters would be introduced.
    • They are the second promenient same-sex couple to appear in a Disney series, after Luz Noceda and Amity Blight from The Owl House.
    • Ally and Jess's clothes have hints of the pansexual and bisexual pride flags, respectively.
  • When Polly is looking up information on robotics, she looks at a GIF of a dancing frog. This is based on an actual GIF of Kermit the Frog doing something similar.
  • In addition to Big Ol' Wiki (the parody of Wikipedia), Polly also uses a parody website of Neopets in her research to fix Frobo. Some of the robot pets even resemble the robot colored versions of a Nimmo, Lupe, and Kacheek.
  • Teddy Luxpin is a reference to Teddy Ruxpin.
  • As Polly is exploring Toob, some videos refer to a game called "Forknife", which is likely a homage to the game Fortnite.
    • One of the "Forknife" video images depicts a player skin of a ninja-like blue robot: this could be a strong reference to the Pokémon franchise, as the skin has the same color scheme as Greninja, a frog-like Pokémon species.
  • Another video that Polly sees on Toob is a "Best of Angry Gamers" video. This can potentially be a homage to either the Angry Video Game Nerd, or the Game Grumps.
  • This episode establishes that the events of the episode are set in either January or February of 2021, since the "Best of Angry Gamers" video is from September 2020, with the details showing it was uploaded five months before the episode. However, this would create a continuity problem as the episode "Froggy Little Christmas" is set around Christmas time.
  • Anne, Hop Pop, and Sprig are watching a movie where a man is clearly heard complaining about grains, a woman saying "I love you", followed by laser sounds. Anne criticizes Hop Pop and Sprig for liking the prequels more, with them telling her that they just watched the films in chronological order and how she can't blame them for not having nostalgia. They are in fact referencing the Star Wars franchise.
    • The DVDs on the table in front of them during this scene have covers that resemble the posters for A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and The Last Jedi.
  • Vroom references Zoom.
