"Flippin' Out" is the first segment of the ninth episode of the Disney Channel animated series Hailey's On It!
Synopsis[]
Hailey joins the cheerleading squad when she needs to earn an "easy" varsity letter but quickly realizes she's underestimated the skill and spirit it takes to cheerlead.
Plot[]
Hailey and Scott set up a trap for a chaos bot, but Scott gets caught in the trap and the chaos bot ends up getting destroyed by Beta. Hailey claims that she was close to getting it, but Beta tells her that it is obvious that she lacks physical talent and suggests that she knock out the next item on her list, which is to earn a varsity letter. Hailey wishes that she could do one for marbles, but is told that no such things exists. Scott reveals that Kristine is on the cheerleading squad and is open to new members. Hailey agrees to do so because she believes that cheerleading is "just dancing and pom poms" and wants to knock out the item quickly.
Hailey arrives at the cheerleading tryouts and to an enthusiastic Kristine who puts her and the rest of the cheerleaders to work. Hailey is quick to find out that cheerleading is much harder than she anticipated, especially for a member named "Unlucky" Lucy who is clumsy and constantly getting injured. The gang reveal their intent to perform the "flying swordfish" technique which involves sending one of their own across the basketball court. While Hailey thinks she has failed, Kristine still invites her, only for Lucy to get into an accident, brought upon by Hailey's marbles, that hospitalizes her. Despite this, Hailey is shocked to learn that Kristine still wants her on the team and agrees to train.
On the final game, Hailey learns about Bored Murray, a boy who is always shows up, but is unimpressed with the cheerleading. Hailey and the team go through the routine which ends with Hailey completing the item on her list, but when Murray still does not respond, Hailey suggests that they try the flying swordfish technique, despite her not having learned it. They perform the technique and Hailey ends up flying into a banner and crashing through a hoop, impressing Murray for the first time. Hailey gets two varsity letters (one for cheerleading and one for basketball), just as another chaos bot arrives. Hailey this time is able to catch it with her new skills, though Scott still gets caught in the trap they set up.
