Family[]
King Edmund[]
- “Eugene: Dad, you called me Eugene.
Edmund: You called me dad!” - ―Eugene and his father.[src]

Eugene getting to know his father, King Edmund.
King Edmund is Eugene's father and the ruler of the Dark Kingdom. Eugene was born as Prince Horace, the only son of King Edmund and heir to the throne of the Dark Kingdom. For generations, members of the royal family had been tasked of protecting the world from the Moonstone that resided in the castle and someday Eugene would be tasked with inheriting the responsibility of his ancestors. During his infancy however, King Edmund had grown angered and tired of the constant destruction the Moonstone caused and attempted to destroy it, only to backfire that caused a massive shockwave and earthquake that almost destroyed the Dark Kingdom. Although King Edmund survived, he lost his right arm and his wife, the Queen had died during the catastrophe. In the aftermath of the tragic events, King Edmund realized the Dark Kingdom was no longer and ordered everyone to leave and never return for their own safety. With a heavy heart, King Edmund made the decision to send Eugene as far away as possible from the Dark Kingdom in order to keep him safe while he remained behind to prevent the Moonstone from falling into the wrong hands.
For his whole life, Eugene was unaware of his true identity as the Prince of the Dark Kingdom with no knowledge or memories of his parents and grew up in an orphanage since he was a child. Although King Edmund made no contact with his son, he tasked his ravens to keep watch over Eugene and who brought him Eugene's childhood toys as he grew up. King Edmund continued to keep tabs over Eugene's life to the point he became Flynn Rider until his ravens eventually lost track of him overtime, but continued to bring him several of Flynn Rider's wanted posters over the years. Eventually after 25 years apart, Eugene and Edmund would finally be reunited in the Season 2 finale "Destinies Collide", when Eugene and his friends arrived to the Dark Kingdom so Rapunzel could grab the Moonstone to restore balance.

Eugene and his father King Edmund.
King Edmund initially tried to stop them and fought against Eugene until he got a closer look and recognised him as his long-lost son. King Edmund revealed himself as Eugene's father and explained to him their family legacy. Eugene was reluctant and unsure at first, refusing to believe Edmund was really his father or the fact he was the long-lost Prince of the Dark Kingdom, but gradually began to accept the truth as he learned about his heritage and linage. Edmund believed Eugene's return to his kingdom was a sign that he was meant to destroy the Moonstone, finally bringing an end to the harm its brought their family. Although Eugene originally refused, he eventually decided to aid his father in fear he would lose Rapunzel to the Moonstone after learning about his mother's death. Fortunately, he came to realize his error and realized his true destiny was to free Edmund from the burden carried out by their ancestors. However, although Eugene managed to convince King Edmund of Rapunzel's destiny and allowed them passage to the Moonstone chambers, Eugene still had a rough relationship with his father and parted ways to when he left to return to Corona.
Eugene and Edmund were shortly reunited again when Edmund later visits Corona to spend time with his son and gives him a sash handed down within the royal family. However, Eugene was upset about Edmund's arrival and refused to acknowledge him as his father, revealing he harbors anger and resentment towards him for abandoning him and not staying in contact. In order to attempt to spend time with his son, Edmund steals the sash and fakes a robbery in order to go on a bonding trip with Eugene. Reluctantly, Eugene agrees to aid his father, but grows increasingly annoyed by his bonding efforts, including the discovery his birth name is Horace which Edmund repeatedly calls him, much to Eugene's dismay. They soon begin to find common ground through their shared love for the Flynn Rider books and work well together when the Stabbington Brothers come to seek revenge until Eugene uncovers the truth and is furious over his father's deceit. However, when Eugene discovers the Stabbingtons hold his father hostage, Eugene returns to save him and in the process discovers how Edmund really had been keeping watch over him during his childhood.
Following the end of their adventure, Eugene begins to acknowledge Edmund as his father who gifts him a brand new sash and they finally begin to build a real relationship as father and son. King Edmund decides to stay in Corona indefinitely as he and Eugene work to continue rebuilding and establishing their relationship and slowly grow closer and accept each other throughout Season 3. Edmund also begins to grow close with Frederic and Arianna, helping them to prepare for Eugene's birthday celebration and happily approves of Eugene and Rapunzel's love for each other to the point he refers to Rapunzel as his future daughter-in-law.
In "Plus Est En Vous", when King Edmund falls under the control of the Mind Trap that has brainwashed the Brotherhood, Eugene reaches out to his father, confessing that while he initially resented him for sending him away as a baby, Eugene comes to understand why Edmund had to do so and forgives him for his actions. These words reach Edmund, who willingly destroys the Mind Trap, freeing himself and the Brotherhood from its effects. After regaining his mind, Edmund embraces his son, and the two formally reconcile before hurrying back to Corona to fight against Zhan Tiri.
By the end of the series, Eugene and Edmund have formed a stronger relationship, with Eugene narrating how he never lost touch with his father ever again when he decided to return to the Dark Kingdom to restore it alongside the Brotherhood.
King Frederic and Queen Arianna[]
In Tangled, Flynn Rider was a well known and wanted thief in Corona and King Frederic wanted him captured for his crimes, his most recent theft of stealing the tiara of King Frederic and Queen Arianna's lost daughter. However, when Eugene found and rescued Rapunzel and returned her to her parents, both Frederic and Arianna would profoundly grateful for him bringing their missing daughter home after 18 years and Arianna pulled him in for the family group hug. Eugene was pardoned by the king and Queen as a result of his heroic actions of returning Corona's long lost princess.
In Tangled: The Series, although King Frederic and Queen Arianna are grateful for Eugene's actions of rescuing Rapunzel, the royals are still adjusting to having the reformed thief living within the castle and his romantic relationship with their daughter, particularly King Frederic.

Eugene with his in-laws
Eugene is shown to be nervous and intimated around the king and is also revealed to have promised to watch out for Rapunzel, but is determined to prove himself and earn his respect, especially in "In Like Flynn", when Eugene helps King Frederic pull a prank over his rival monarch, King Trevor. Frederic and Eugene grow closer through this bonding experience, bringing Eugene closer to his future father-in-law and making Frederic more fond and accepting of him, even occasionally calling him "Son." Eugene remains on much better terms with Queen Arianna, who is more accepting and welcoming of him into the royal family. However, their relationship is briefly tested in "The Return of Strongbow", when Eugene recalled he had previously stolen a ring from Arianna eight years ago. Eugene admits and apologizes for his past crime and is prepared to face the consequences, but ultimately Arianna forgives Eugene and decides not to inform Frederic, instead simply states Eugene found her lost ring.
Gradually throughout Season 1, Eugene begins to slowly yet surely grow closer with his future parents-in-law, earning their respect and acceptance of his and Rapunzel's love and Eugene manages to save them when Frederic and Arianna are stranded in a deadly snowstorm in "Queen for a Day". Eugene is shown to be very respectful to the King and Queen and always strives to his upmost best around them and grows frustrated or annoyed when Lance embarrasses him in "The Way of the Willow". By the end of the first season, Eugene's relationship with his future-in-laws grows to the point he is willing to stand up against King Frederic for locking Rapunzel in her bedroom in "Secret of the Sun Drop".
By Season 3, Eugene remains on good terms with Frederic and Arianna and helps to reunite the royal couple and through his and Rapunzel's love helps them to restore their memories. In turn, Frederic and Arianna have fully accepted Eugene into the family, being among the guests attending his birthday celebration and happily approve of him as the new Captain of the Royal Guard.
When Eugene marries Rapunzel in Tangled Ever After, Frederic and Arianna become his father-in-law and mother-in-law, respectively and happily watch the young couple become husband and wife
Friends[]
Lance Strongbow[]

Eugene and Lance.
Lance is one of Flynn's best friends in Tangled: The Series and they do a lot together. The two have been best friends since they were young and would rob places together. However, after meeting Rapunzel, Flynn and Lance have both turned their lives around and become captain of the guards. Flynn and Lance have known each other since they were very young as they grew up in the orphanage together.
When Lance re-entered Eugene's life after 8 years, their relationship strained a little due to Lance wanting to rob the Baron's basement and Eugene refused since he had moved on from his thieving ways of life. Throughout the series however, Eugene and Lance have stayed best friends and they would sometimes wonder off on together such as in Rapunzel and the Great Tree when they both are effected by special pollen and express their friendship to each other. Despite Eugene being annoyed with Lance's dim-wittedness, Eugene still cares for him. In Beyond the Corona Walls, Eugene worries deeply for Lance after the Baron poisoned him with his poisonous spider and Eugene was desperate to do anything to save him, even if it means marrying Stalyan.
Pascal[]

Eugene and Pascal.
Pascal took an immediate dislike to Flynn Rider when he arrived in the tower, believing him to be a threat towards Rapunzel. Pascal would shoot his tongue into Flynn's ear to wake him up after the latter was knocked out by Rapunzel twice, much to Flynn's disgust. As a result, Flynn would refer to Pascal as a "frog," despite knowing he is a chameleon. When Rapunzel reveals that the her long blonde hair is magical, Pascal could not help, but smile at a freaked out Flynn and help him understand that Rapunzel's hair has the ability to heal. When touring the kingdom of Corona, Pascal reminds Flynn and Maximus, the horse of Captain of the Guards to be on their best behaviour.
Over time, Flynn earned Pascal's affections when he started to care for and fall in love with Rapunzel. Flynn also comes treat Pascal as a good companion as shown when he gently puts Pascal on a boat so he can join him and Rapunzel to see the lanterns. Pascal even started to support Flynn and Rapunzel's budding relationship. After Mother Gothel's death and Rapunzel reuniting with her family, Pascal continued to support Flynn and Rapunzel's romance.
In the series, Pascal and Eugene are very close and tend to hang out together at times. Although Eugene continues to call Pascal, "Frog", it is now referred to as an endearing nickname. Eugene and Pascal also serve as the voice of reason for Rapunzel when they both become concern about her well-being and often work together to help her. In the Season 2 finale, "Destinies Collide", Pascal is the first to learn about Eugene's true identity as the Prince of The Dark Kingdom when Eugene confides in him over discovering the truth about his past and sympathizes with him over the death of his mother. In Season 3, Eugene and Pascal sometimes spend time together alone such as in "Return of the King" when they have breakfast together.
Maximus[]

Eugene and Maximus.
Flynn began a heated rivalry with the Captain of the Guards's horse, Maximus after having stolen the crown of the lost princess. Maximus was determined to catch and apprehend Flynn where the latter kept fleeing from the horse. Flynn also did not think highly of Maximus as he one time called him a "fleabag" and taunted the horse when he managed to escape from him.
After escaping and surviving a flood, Maximus finally caught up with Flynn and arrest him by force. However, when Maximus is quickly befriended by Rapunzel, Flynn watched in disbelief as Maximus was tamed by Rapunzel. Flynn then reluctantly made a truce with Maximus just for the sake of Rapunzel of living her dream to see the floating lanterns on her birthday (though Flynn was secretly "punched" in the stomach by Maximus). Flynn, at first, had a hard time keeping his truce with Maximus as they nearly fought each other until they were reprimanded by Pascal. However, as they explored the kingdom, Flynn and Maximus' opinions on each other changed such as Maximus noticing Flynn's growing feelings for Rapunzel where he encouraged him to dance with her and where Flynn gave Maximus a satchel of apples, saying he bought most of them.
When Flynn was arrested by the royal guards, Maximus witnessed this and saw how worried Flynn was over Rapunzel who had gone back to Mother Gothel. Maximus then decided to recruit the Pub Thugs of the Snuggly Duckling to rescue Flynn so he could save Rapunzel from Gothel. When the thugs successfully managed to bust Flynn out of prison, Flynn was surprised to discover that Maximus brought the thugs to save him from execution. Flynn gratefully thanked Maximus before the two set off to rescue Rapunzel from Gothel.
After Rapunzel was freed from Gothel where she returned home to her family, Flynn and Maximus remained on good terms with each other where they eventually developed a close friendship. In the finale, Plus Est En Vous, they both formed the very strong bond, with Eugene becoming new captain of the Royal guards and Max as his second-in-command.
Pub Thugs[]

Eugene with the pub thugs
Eugene knows the Pub Thugs and takes Rapunzel to see them at The Snuggly Duckling in the movie. Although the thugs don't like Eugene or Rapunzel at first, they all bond during "I've Got A Dream" and the thugs help them escape, plus they help Eugene escape prison and rescue Rapunzel.
In the series, both Eugene and Rapunzel are friends with the thugs including Hook Hand's brother Hook Foot. Hook Foot even joins Eugene, Rapunzel, Shorty, Cassandra and Lance on their journey to the Dark Kingdom in Season 2 until he leaves with his brother Hook Hand, on tour.
Cassandra[]
- Eugene: "Cass, you're worth fighting for."
- Cassandra: "I, uh... I missed you too, Eugene."
- ―Final exchange between Eugene and Cassandra[src]

Eugene and Cassandra.
Eugene and Cassandra have a somewhat of a complicated relationship as they tend to make fun of each other a lot throughout the first couple of seasons, mostly in Season 1. Eugene and Cassandra tend to bicker a lot which leads Rapunzel to make them work together to hopefully get along better and they start to understand and get to know each other better. They also at times work together to protect Rapunzel in episodes like Painter's Block.
In Season 2, Cassandra and Eugene are more friendlier towards each other. Eugene starts to see Cassandra as more as a sister, something he mentions in the Season finale Destinies Collide and they are both shown to care about each other more even though they still make fun of each other at times.
In Season 3, after Cassandra's betrayal where she takes the moonstone, Eugene is surprised when Cassandra reveals she is the biological daughter of Mother Gothel, but does not let it bother him as he knows Cassandra is nothing like Gothel. Later, Eugene and Rapunzel try to bring their friend back to normal and he states that there is still hope that Cassandra can be redeemed for what she has done. Eugene often worries about Cassandra, especially after she turns bad and has stated again that she is like a sister to him, especially in "Once a Handmaiden...". After Cassandra redeems herself by helping Rapunzel defeat Zhan Tiri, Eugene expresses how he is glad to see her back and tells her how she was worth fighting for when going against Zhan Tiri. Cassandra says she will miss Eugene too, and they end on friendly terms.
Varian[]

Eugene and Varian.
When Eugene first met Varian, he thought he was harming Rapunzel until he was told that Varian was only experimenting on Rapunzel's hair which had mysteriously grown back when she touched the Black Rocks. When Eugene found out the Varian was a fan of him and mistook him as the "Flynn Rider" from "The Tales of Flynnigan Rider," Flynn was overjoyed and tried to explain to Varian that his real name was Eugene Fitzherbert and that he just took the name "Flynn Rider." Also, Eugene found Varian to be nerdy and when he found out about his machines to produce hot water, Eugene convinced Varian to turn off his machine, fearing his machines are unstable and will cause damage to Old Corona. Varian realizes Eugene is right where his machines caused earthquakes to nearly destroy his home.
When Eugene, Rapunzel and their friends return to Corona, he is unsure whether or not to trust Varian after learning he previously worked with the Saporians to erase all of Coronians' memories. However, after Varian redeems himself, Eugene is happy to trust him again. Throughout Season 3, Varian and Eugene have become close and have formed a brother-like relationship. Varian sometimes comes to Eugene for support and comfort such as in Cassandra's Revenge when they are both being pulled back into Cassandra's Stronghold, Eugene protects Varian and holds his hand to keep him safe with him. After the final incantation, it resulted in huge explosion and Varian and Eugene call out for each other, showing how much they care about their safety. Eugene and Varian like to invent things together such as Project Obsidian in Once a Handmaiden... when they try to come up with something that will protect Corona from Cassandra's attacks.
Angry and Red[]
- “Man, I love those girls.”
- ―Eugene in "Vigor the Visionary"

Eugene with Angry and Red
Eugene first met thieves Angry and Red in "Big Brothers of Corona", when he and Lance were asked by King Fedric to find the criminals who were stealing from the kingdom. After finding out the thief were two young girls, Eugene and Lance offered to help them return everything and turn their lives around. Angry and Red betrayed Eugene at first as they had stolen Rapunzel's crown, but he believed he was able to change them for the better. Upon listening to Rapunzel's advice, Eugene let Angry and Red go with full responsibility on the stolen items missing. However, Angry and Red decided to return the items and left the kingdom.
Eugene and Rapunzel run into Angry and Red a year later in "Vigor the Visionary", when they find the children have stolen Vigor, a monkey that tells fortunes. When Angry is convinced to find her long lost parents, Eugene is worried that Angry and Red are in trouble, especially when a couple seemingly confirm the young girl's theory. However, Eugene and Rapunzel realize the girls are in danger when the couple figure out Angry and Red are held hostage by the couple, who are revealed to be the Daylight Thieves. Eugene helps Angry realize Red is her family and he says he loves the girls after seeing they have fought the thieves.
In Season 3, Angry and Red are reunited with Rapunzel and Eugene and they help the couple defeat Zhan Tiri, after permanently moving to Corona and putting their thieving days behind them.
Enemies[]
Mother Gothel[]

Mother Gothel shackles a wounded Eugene
When Flynn first heard of Mother Gothel as Rapunzel was worrying how her "mother" would think when she found out she disobeyed her orders to not leave the tower. Flynn, wanting to get out of his deal with Rapunzel, tried to persuade Rapunzel into returning to her tower and giving back his satchel, using Rapunzel's love for her "mother" as an advantage. When escaping the Snuggly Duckling through an underground tunnel, Flynn and Rapunzel had a conversation to get to know each other, where he decided not to ask about Rapunzel's "overprotective mother," claiming he wasn't interested.
When the Stabbington Brothers told Flynn that an "old lady" told them the secret of Rapunzel's hair, Flynn quickly figured the old lady was Rapunzel's "mother" and realized in horror that her "mother" was actually her kidnapper who wanted use to the magic powers of Rapunzel's hair all to herself. With this knowledge, Flynn became desperate to rescue Rapunzel and once he was freed from prison, he rushed off to save Rapunzel from Gothel. Once he arrives at the tower, Flynn was tricked by Gothel into entering the tower where he ends up being stabbed by her. Gothel intended to leave Flynn to die while she left with Rapunzel. Yet, Rapunzel promised to submit to Gothel if she's allowed to heal Flynn, which Flynn tried to plead her into not doing. Gothel agreed and chained Flynn to prevent him from following them once he is healed. However, Flynn refused to have Gothel enslave Rapunzel forever and cuts Rapunzel's hair to free Rapunzel, causing Gothel to age rapidly which led her to her death.
The Baron[]
Eugene and the Baron do not get along at all. They have been at odds with each other ever since Eugene was a teenager after he and Lance had refused to give the Baron the princesses crown and Eugene was eventually engaged to the Baron's daughter Stalyan. However Eugene left Stalyan at the alter which caused the Baron to get revenge on Eugene. Even though Stalyan eventually moved on from it, the Baron hadn't. Even though the Baron tried to get revenge again in Flynnpostor, Eugene, now Captain of the Guard, defeated the Baron and put him in jail in good.
Stalyan[]
- Eugene: "Stalyan, I can‘t do this. I’m in love with someone else."
- Stalyan: "Yeah, I know. We’ve all heard the story by now. How the daring, ne’er do well thief rescued the lost princess from her tower. Let me ask you, do you really think it’s fair to ask a girl who spent the first 18 years of her life in prison to give up her freedom for a lifelong relationship with....someone like you?"
- ―Stalyan makes Eugene rethink his relationship with Rapunzel[src]

Stalyan holding Eugene captive
Long before he met Rapunzel, Eugene was engaged to Stalyan, but decided to leave her at the altar when he realized he didn't love her anymore. Years later, when Eugene arrived in Vardaros, he had an unfortunate coincidence of meeting Stalyan again. Eugene told Stalyan that he was in love with Rapunzel, to which Stalyan revealed her knowledge of the story of how the roguish thief rescued the lost princess from her years-long imprisonment in her tower and made him rethink his relationship with Rapunzel. This helped Eugene understand Rapunzel's desire for freedom in a way.
As Eugene almost marries Stalyan, Rapunzel crashes the wedding, and Eugene soon became caught in a tug-of-war between Rapunzel and Stalyan. Eugene is freed from Stalyan's grasp thanks to Pascal, and he happily returned to Rapunzel, but Stalyan vowed to get back at him.
Later, Rapunzel had to team up with Stalyan in order to free Eugene after he is arrested for stealing the Eye of Pincosta, but Stalyan took the Eye for herself to reclaim Eugene from Rapunzel. However, upon finding a note from Rapunzel, she had a change of heart and came back to assist Rapunzel. Stalyan came to terms with how Eugene and Rapunzel loved each other and decided to allow them to be together. After moving on from Eugene, Stalyan eventually came across his look-alike Brock Thunderstrike and started dating him.
Lady Caine[]

Eugene with a disguised Lady Caine.
Back when he was a thief, Flynn was well-aware of Lady Caine's reputation as a ruthless leader of a pirate gang and how she managed to convince criminals to serve her. When Lady Caine attacked Rapunzel's coronation, Flynn instantly knew that Lady Caine was behind the attack. He helped Rapunzel and Cassandra battle Lady Caine and her minions in order to save King Frederic and the other nobles who were attending the coronation. After Lady Caine tried to escape by grabbing a weapon that was used to keep the door locked, Flynn taunted Lady Caine as he watched her and minions get arrested and sent to prison for their crimes.
Zhan Tiri[]
- “You could have taken the form of a chimp like your buddy, but no! You just had to be whatever that is!”
- ―Eugene, to Zhan Tiri[src]

Eugene going off against Zhan Tiri
Eugene and Rapunzel both learned about Zhan Tiri in "Queen for a Day" and the myth that the ancient demon could have caused the blizzard in Corona. Later, Eugene managed to save Rapunzel from Sugracha the Eternal, one of Zhan Tiri's minions. Eugene and Rapunzel, however, didn't actually meet Zhan Tiri until "Race to the Spire" when she was in disguise of the Enchanted Girl. In the series finale "Plus Est En Vous", Eugene led an army of Coronans and the Brotherhood in the battle against Zhan Tiri. After Zhan Tiri's demise, peace was restored to Corona once more, and Eugene and Rapunzel lived happily ever after.
Other Relationships[]
Stabbington Brothers[]

Eugene with the Stabbington Brothers
During his thieving days, Eugene worked with the Stabbington Brothers, including when they all attempted to steal the crown of the lost princess. However, after falling in love with Rapunzel - the lost princess of Corona - Eugene gave the brothers the crown as Eugene no longer wanted to have it or be a criminal, as he had seen the light.
Shown in the series, the Sabbington Brothers are the only ones who refer to Eugene as Flynn or just Rider, and they seem to still hold a grudge against him as he has "become soft" upon being with Rapunzel. Eugene, however, does still save the brothers when a dam splits and he pulls them onto his and Rapunzel's log. In "No Time Like the Past", it is revealed that Eugene worked with the Sabbington's when they were all teenagers, until the events of the film.
Brock Thunderstrike[]
- “It's true. Yes, Flynn Rider should go to jail. But as it turns out, I only see Brock Thunderstrike standing before me. Just promise me that you’ll make your own future and carve out your own identity. And whatever you do, do not let an awesome name like Brock Thunderstrike go to waste, man, because wow! What a name that's like a gift from the heavens, you know.”
- ―Eugene allows Brock Thunderstrike a chance to go straight[src]

Eugene interrogating the impostor "Flynn Rider"
When Eugene learned about the presence of another thief going by his former alias of "Flynn Rider", he became jealous that someone could steal that name, so he went out to find and capture the impostor, accompanied by Rapunzel, Maximus, and Pascal. After catching him, Eugene interrogated the new "Flynn Rider" over the theft of the alias.
After the Baron shackled both Eugene and the impostor "Flynn Rider" to a stake and left them to drown, the impostor apologized to Eugene and revealed his true name of Brock Thunderstrike, shocking Eugene. Eugene managed to unshackle Brock, who instead decided to leave Eugene behind, but not before being asked by Eugene if that was what Brock Thunderstrike would do. Brock later had a change of heart and returned to rescue Eugene by knocking out the Baron. Eugene, with persuasion from Rapunzel, decided to allow Brock a second chance and allowed him to go straight as long as Brock never let his real name go to waste, and they end on seemingly good terms, but Eugene expressed his dislike for Brock.
Adira[]
When Adira first met Eugene, she had no idea that he is King Edmund's son. In "Forest of No Return", Adira helps Rapunzel and her friends to through a dangerous forest she dubbed as "the deadly forest of no return", causing Eugene's jealousy. He attempt to compete with her until the two talked it out when they got separated from the others. They united the strength and saved Eugene's friends. Currently, it is not known if their relationship changed when Eugene discovered that he was the son of King Edmund.
