Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions is a 2020 American documentary concert film directed and produced by American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, released on Disney+ on November 25, 2020.
Summary[]
The film features Swift performing all of the 17 songs from her eighth studio album, Folklore (2020), in an intimate setting at Long Pond Studio, a secluded cabin in upstate New York. Swift is accompanied by her co-producers Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff, as well as a guest appearance by Justin Vernon of Bon Iver. In between the live performances, Swift and her collaborators discuss the creative process and the stories behind each song, revealing how they remotely produced the album during the COVID-19 pandemic. The film also provides insight into Swift's personal life, such as her relationship with actor Joe Alwyn, who co-wrote some of the songs under the pseudonym William Bowery.
Release[]
The film received critical acclaim from critics and fans alike, who praised its music, intimacy, visuals, and commentary on Folklore. It also received a Gracie Grand Award for Outstanding Special or Variety. Along with the film's release, Swift also released a live album soundtrack, titled Folklore: The Long Pond Studio Sessions (From the Disney+ Special), which contains the recordings of the live performances featured in the film. The album topped several Billboard charts and became the first-ever Record Store Day exclusive to enter the top 10 of the Billboard 200 chart. The film was Swift's directorial debut and her fourth film to be released on a streaming service, following The 1989 World Tour Live (2015), Taylor Swift: Reputation Stadium Tour (2018), and Miss Americana (2020). The film also inspired Swift to write and record several new songs off-screen, which became part of her ninth studio album, Evermore (2020), which was released fifteen days after the film.
