"Follies at the Coven Day Parade" is the thirtieth episode of the Disney Channel animated series The Owl House. It premiered on March 19, 2022, and is the eleventh episode in the second season.

Synopsis[]

In the aftermath of her trip home, Luz takes on daring rescue missions during the Coven Day parade.

Plot[]

Shortly after making contact with her mother, Luz films a video for her mom to watch, showing her life on The Boiling Isles and how great it is. Unfortunately, all the footage she is able to get does not show anything that would make her mom react more positively, such as Hooty putting his skin out on the washing line, Boscha threatening to burn Luz after nearly blinding her with her light spell, and the new and more gruesome detention pit. Her friends have also been asking her if she succeeded in making contact with her mother. Too afraid to admit the truth, she lies that she hasn't yet. In desperation to escaping answering more questions, she forgets her phone. Amity finds it and the video she made.

The Isles is also preparing for the Coven Day Parade, and Eda is planning to rescue Raine Whispers. On the streets, Luz, Eda, and King, find Kikimora looking rather troubled. She is supposed to be seeing family today, if she don’t show up to the family reunion in time she’ll be banished from her home, but is also expected to attend the parade, and the Emperor will not take kindly to her not showing up. Feeling sorry for her, Luz offers to help her by staging a kidnapping. That way she will not get punished by the Emperor. However, Eda does not trust Kikimora, especially after all their previous encounters. But Luz manages to convince her to go with it. Luz, King, and Amity go around making final preparations before the parade. Together they build their own float, which is rigged with a few surprises.

The night of the parade beings, with King and Hooty inside the float they built. Luz and Eda are waiting in position, and as Kikimora and Raine's float passes by, King and Hooty set off some insulting magic fireworks. That is the signal, and Luz and Eda move and kidnap Raine and Kikimora. While Luz escapes with Kikimora, Eda takes Raine to an alley, where she embraces them. However, Raine does not appear to have any recollection over the past few months. As far as they are concerned they had been sick in bed. They do not even remember leading a rebellion. Eda tries to get them to remember, but all it does is frustrate Raine and makes them fight off Eda, before allowing her to flee before any guards show up. Raine secretly sheds a tear for what happened between them and attacking and pushing Eda away.

Meanwhile, Luz and Kikimora find themselves being pursued by the head of the Plant Coven, Terra Snapdragon, who promises she will receive a promotion if she returns to the parade. With Amity's help, they make it to the docks where Kikimora's hand dragon is waiting. Luz sends her on her way, only for Kikimora to betray Luz for the promotion over her family and her home even though Amity says Terra could have tricked her. She attacks Luz and Amity with her hand dragon, only to be stopped by Terra Snapdragon. Terra reveals to Kikimora that the "promotion" was just to test her loyalty and gets to live, this shocks Kikimora and returns to the parade. Terra tells Luz that Belos is looking forward to meeting her (again).

Amity confronts Luz about the video, which she had not watched yet and not wanting to violate Luz's privacy. Amity knows Luz was lying about her not seeing her mother and guessed it didn't go well. Luz apologizes and finally tells Amity what actually happened as they regroup with Eda, King, and Hooty. Gathered on the rood of a building, Emperor Belos appears before the public and announces his plans for the day of unity and the end of wild magic in a month. And he also reveals his face to the public. The group wonders what Belos is really planning for the day of unity and meeting with Luz, Luz says they just have to wait and see.
