The Fords of Beruna are a location featured in the 2005 Disney/Walden Media adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe and the 2008 film adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian.

Background[]

The Fords of Beruna are located at the kingdom of Narnia where the Great River of Narnia and the River Rush meet together. This area was also the site where two major battles occurred within a large area of land known as the Battlefield. The first battle occurred between Jadis' Army and Aslan's Army (commanded by Peter and later Aslan himself after he was revived) in a massive battle. After the battle ended with Jadis being killed, the Winter Revolution was put to an end.

Since the events of Prince Caspian, Telmarines began to settle in the Fords where they built battlements in destroying the trees within the area as they built a bridge, imprisoning the River God within the settlement. Throughout the events, Aslan was able to free the god, who destroyed the bridge, turning it into the Fords of Beruna once again.

Appearances[]

The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe[]

After hearing of Aslan's death, Peter and Edmund arrive at Beruna, planning to go to war after hearing of Jadis planning to take over Narnia. The next day, a gryphon flies and alerts Peter that Jadis and her henchmen have arrived to take over Narnia. Oreius then replies to the gryphon, "Numbers do not win a battle", which he thinks that Oreius might be right and that they might lose to Jadis.

Later, General Otmin appears on a hill and begins roaring to get ready to face Aslan's Army seen from the far distance. Amongst the creatures of Jadis' Army marching across Beruna are goblins, werewolves, ghouls, dwarfs, minotaurs, wolves, white tigers, Boggles, Ankle Slicers, Minoboars, cyclopes, and giants that take part during battle, to which they halt upon facing Aslan's Army who are ready to fight back. Seeing Jadis' Army from a distance while preparing to fight, the Narnians ready themselves for battle while Peter wields his sword. The centaurs, fauns, and satyrs raise their weapons just as Jadis stares at them. Jadis orders her army to kill Aslan's Army, which Otmin agrees, followed by Ginarrbrik angrily wielding his axe just as the army plans to do so. Suddenly, the minotaurs, goblins, wolves, white tigers, werewolves, and other creatures leap down a hill and charge across the battlefield, preparing to attack.

As Jadis' Army charges across Beruna, Edmund grabs his sword to ready himself for battle, just as a flock of gryphons and eagles are summoned to drop boulders at the incoming army, while the gryphon next to Peter joins with them. General Otmin alerts the evil creatures of Jadis' Army to look at the sky to see the gryphons and eagles preparing to attack. All of a sudden, the gryphons and eagles drop boulders at the incoming army, killing numerous minions of the White Witch. In the extended version of the film, the White Witch summons a flock of harpies to stop the gryphons and eagles that are dropping boulders on the charging army to which upon doing so, they violently clash with the gryphons and eagles. One harpy takes on a gryphon, causing both of each other to fall from high above the sky, killing each other just as the gryphons and eagles continue dropping more boulders on the minions.

As the eagles and gryphons continue attacking, archer dwarfs fire arrows at the gryphons and eagles in revenge, just as Aslan's Army readies themselves to fight back. Soon as Peter yells, "For Narnia, and for Aslan!", Aslan's Army charges in front of the evil creatures of Jadis' Army to avenge Aslan who sacrificed himself. Amongst the creatures of Aslan's Army are centaurs, fauns, satyrs, leopards, cheetahs, rhinoceroses, boars, and other creatures charging across the battlefield. Just as the centaurs arm themselves with weapons while charging with the rest of Aslan's Army, Jadis' Army soon starts getting closer with a white tiger charging ferociously during the battle. Throughout the war, the two armies clash with each other, causing a violent battle at Beruna - Aslan's Army attacking and killing several minions of Jadis' Army, albeit certain members of Aslan's Army suffering from casualties like a white tiger violently attacking a centaur. As Aslan's Army clashes with Jadis' Army, Otmin then grabs his weapon and dispatches two centaurs in rage throughout the violent battle.

As the battle continues at Beruna with Aslan's Army clashing against Jadis' Army, Edmund tells a centauress archer to fire an arrow, which then summons a phoenix to take down the White Witch and her army. In the extended version of the film, the phoenix dodges a couple of arrows fired by some dwarfs while Peter on his unicorn sees a harpy preparing to intercept the phoenix in a plan to intercept it. He then grabs a spear from a dead cyclops and throws it at the harpy to dispatch it, successfully preventing the harpy from killing the phoenix. With the harpy successfully dispatched, Peter then kills a goblin preparing fire an arrow at the phoenix, countering its attack, followed by Peter dispatching two more minotaurs, just as the phoenix continues flying across the battlefield with no archers or harpies attempting to attack it.

The phoenix then successfully flies on the battlefield to create a fire barrier just as the other Narnians cheer for a success, followed by Mr. Beaver who is happy that this plan of summoning a phoenix was a success. However, the polar bears from Jadis' chariot blow an icy breath to undo the effect, just as Edmund and Mr. Beaver retreat while Aslan, Susan, and Lucy are on their way to Jadis' Courtyard to revive the stone prisoners and restore them to normal form to bring in reinforcements to help Peter and Edmund win the battle against Jadis.

Later, archers part of Aslan's Army fire arrows at the incoming minions, dispatching several of them; however, Ginarrbrik fires an arrow at Peter's unicorn, injuring the unicorn, which causes Peter to fall off its back. Peter and his unicorn are shown to have survived just as he notices a rhino and Oreius preparing to charge against the White Witch. As they attempt to attack Jadis, Peter suddenly feels worried that Jadis could petrify them. The rhino then dispatches two minotaurs and an ogre, but is tumbled down by smaller avian-like creatures, Ankle Slicers, just as Oreius joins in the battle in a plan to face Jadis. Oreius engages in a duel against General Otmin in a violent duel to which as the generals clash against each other, Oreius places his sword on Otmin to dispatch him, killing the general of Jadis' Army. Oreius then attempts to take out Jadis, but is suddenly petrified using her wand against him.

Later, Jadis knocks out a satyr by petrifying him in his stone form while trying to protect herself from the members of Aslan's Army dueling with her. As the battle continues to become more violent, two fauns are knocked out by minotaurs during battle. Two gryphons then attempt to fly into Jadis, but she protects herself from being attacked - the second one struck by Jadis being turned to stone and later destroyed in its stone form. Peter then warns Edmund that there are too many minions of the White Witch during battle, just as Mr. Beaver escorts Edmund to safety while Peter dispatches another minotaur. As the battle continues to rage across Beruna, Jadis petrifies a faun who attempts to kill her, but she turns him into stone using her wand. A nearby leopard leaps from above and attempts to pounce on Jadis, but she strikes it with her wand, also turning it into stone to avoid getting pounced on. Edmund then risks himself to destroy Jadis' staff while the other members of Aslan's Army continue fighting against Jadis' Army during battle, much to Mr. Beaver's warning; amongst the creatures he passes through are a gorilla dragging a minotaur to the ground and a boar attempting to drag an evil dwarf down the ground.

In the extended version of the film, Edmund encounters a red dwarf being attacked by Ginarrbrik, to which Edmund saves him from being attacked, causing Ginarrbrik to fall off and lie down unconsciously.

Soon as Edmund destroys Jadis' wand, Jadis then attacks Edmund, injuring him during battle. Peter then attempts to face the White Witch by himself while the Narnians part of Aslan's Army continue fighting against Jadis' Army. As Peter is still fighting against Jadis in a duel by himself, Aslan, who was brought back from the dead, arrives at Beruna and roars loudly, much to Jadis' shock of Aslan who was brought back from the dead. Amongst the allies accompanying Aslan are Susan, Lucy, Mr. Tumnus, and a large group of reinforcements who were rescued from Jadis' Courtyard. The reinforcements then charge across the battlefield with Mr. Tumnus, unarmed, dispatching a goblin preparing to strike him, followed by Rumblebuffin swinging his club against two minotaurs. Aslan suddenly arrives during battle and tackles Jadis, defeating her and ending her tyranny. With Jadis defeated, the members of Aslan's Army celebrate their victory with Jadis' Army being disbanded, causing the surviving followers of the White Witch to retreat.

Later, Peter, Susan, and Lucy approach Edmund who is being attacked by Ginarrbrik, the only surviving follower of Jadis wandering around. Susan fires her bow and arrow at Ginarrbrik to defend Edmund, killing him, while Lucy uses her cordial to heal Edmund just as they all reunite with each other. The four later approach Aslan who rescues a satyr who was petrified (who transforms from his petrified form to his normal form) and many other petrified victims just before arriving at Cair Paravel where the Pevensies are crowned as kings and queens of Narnia.

The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian[]

While walking across the forest, Trumpkin tells the Pevensies that there is a ford near Beruna which reminds Lucy of Aslan who fought at the battlefield at Beruna to which neither Peter nor Susan could find Aslan in the forest. As they arrive at the ford, the Pevensies and Trumpkin encounter various Telmarines causing destruction across the forest cutting down many trees while building a bridge on the river, just before Peter discusses with Lucy about the spot where she found Aslan just before crossing the River Rush.

Meanwhile, Miraz talks to Glozelle of how much the Narnians took, which he replies to the king that they took enough weapons and armor for two regiments just before Miraz reads a message engraved by Caspian on the back of the carriage which reads, "You were right to fear the woods", which must be linked to Caspian. He then asks Glozelle of how many soldiers he lost recently, which Glozelle claims that there were no casualties and that he never saw them. Miraz then asks Glozelle of how many Telmarines were killed during the Narnian attack, which Glozelle claims that there were three casualties. He then tells Sopespian that Caspian is the instigator, not a victim just before leaving off via horse just before Glozelle engages in a private conversation with his men.

Furthermore, a large army of Telmarines wearing helmets and masks march across the battlefield - several of them marching by foot, bringing in war machines and warhorses while Miraz sees the surviving Narnians from a distance outside Aslan's How. After Edmund delivered a proposal to Miraz, the Narnians and Telmarines are gathered to watch a fight between the two kings in a duel to see who surrenders to the usurper, just as a battle engages across Aslan's How while Susan and Lucy are searching for Aslan to buy Miraz more time. Just after Caspian spares Miraz's life but tells him to give Narnia their kingdom back, Sopespian betrays Miraz and then kills him by stabbing him with an arrow. Upon doing so, Sopespian blames the Narnians for treachery, accusing them for murdering the king, just as Glozelle sends out a massive assault against the Narnians and Telmarines, resulting in a violent battle.

Throughout the battle, Susan commands the archers to fire their arrows at the incoming Telmarine soldiers while the surviving Narnians inside Aslan's How smash the pillars to create a gap to cause several soldiers to fall. The Narnians continue charging across the battlefield and clash in violently with the Telmarines. Edmund riding on his horse fires arrows at the soldiers using a crossbow while a tiger pounces and kills another soldier, followed by Trufflehunter being tossed into another soldier and later Reepicheep fighting another one. As the army soon starts drawing nearer, a flock of gryphons carry dwarfs who fire their arrows at the incoming army, just as one of the Telmarines uses a war machine to fire spears at the gryphons and dwarfs, killing some of them. Peter alerts the Narnians to return to the How, due to the army being too powerful, just as the war machines continue causing massive destruction on the How, blocking the entrance. As the Narnians continue to charge across Narnia, Lucy finally finds Aslan in the forest where he arrives at the battlefield to help win the war. Aslan lets out a mighty roar across the landscape.

Meanwhile, Aslan's roar summons dryads in the form of large trees that begin fighting off the Telmarines to help the Narnians win the battle, where they make way for the trees. As the trees start to attack, they destroy the war machines the Telmarines brought (although one of dryads was killed by one of the war machines, causing the dryad in tree form to be knocked down), defending the surviving Narnians from the Telmarines. As the surviving Telmarines begin to retreat to the Fords of Beruna, the surviving trees continue to destroy the remaining war machines. As Sopespian leads the army to charge, Aslan roars very loudly to summon a River God to wipe out a large number of Telmarines, including Sopespian who was killed during the battle, just as the deity destroys the bridge the Telmarines built. The surviving Telmarines all retreat in defeat and surrender to the Narnians, just as they give up their weapons while the water deity dissipates. With the battle over, Aslan tells the kings and queens of Narnia to rise just as Caspian tells him that he is not ready to be king yet, which Aslan tells him that it's for the very reason for himself. Lucy approaches an unconscious Reepicheep and revived him using her cordial. Reepicheep approaches Aslan and retreats that he must withdraw for the unique abilities he has as a mouse just as Aslan tells him that it's for the love for his own kind just before Trumpkin approaches Aslan just before the Narnians and Telmarines attend the coronation of Caspian at the Telmarine castle.
