Fred Hellmich was an American character animator for Walt Disney Animation Studios. He often, like many other animators, had been "demoted" to Key Clean-Up Artist in order to crank through the reams of footage waiting to be completed on the feature. He worked on animated films, like Sleeping Beauty, The Sword in the Stone, The Jungle Book, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Rescuers, and The Fox and the Hound.
Outside of Disney, Hallmich worked as an animator for various Hanna-Barbara productions, like The Smurfs, Scoody-Doo, and The Flinstones. He also worked on Alvin & the Chipmunks, Pac-Man, Heavy Metal, Trollkins, Space Stars, Godzilla, and the Ralph Bakshi films The Nine lives of Fritz the Cat, Coonskin, and Heavy Traffic.
While in South Korea, he became ill and died in 1983.
