Fred Stork[1][2] is a character who appears in the 1951 Pluto cartoon Cold Storage.

Background[]

Physical appearance[]

Fred typically has white plumage around his body with an orange beak located on his head as well as having a pair of light blue eyes. In addition to the white plumage he has, Fred's wingtips are dark purple as well as his tail. He also has a pair of long orange legs with claws sticking out of them.

Role in the short[]

Fred is first seen standing in a frozen marsh, shivering from the cold temperature. As he walks out of the frozen water, he warms himself after breaking the ice stuck on his feet and then flies to another warm spot, which is Pluto's doghouse. He grabs a pillow and rests his head, which Pluto is unaware to see a stork in the backyard. As he arrives, Pluto realizes that Fred is inside his doghouse. As Fred continues to move with the doghouse placed inside him, Pluto becomes furious, telling Fred to stop moving and as he look at his bowl, he notices Fred behind him passing by. Pluto angrily attempts to get Fred out of his house, who then stops and sticks his beak out. As Fred drinks water from his bowl, Pluto barks at him, telling him to stay away from his water, only for Fred to fly around his yard (still with the doghouse inside him).

Pluto then dashes through a piece of the fence, flipping his doghouse which he places Pluto's pillow and sleeps on the doghouse like a crib, much to Pluto's frustration. Pluto furiously leaps on Fred and fights him, ripping his pillow, just before sleeping in his house peacefully, unaware that the "pillow" is actually camouflaged as Fred, who deploys him to a frozen pond just before going back to the doghouse, only for Pluto to attempt to kick him out. Pluto continues to fight with Fred in his property. However, spring arrives at the spot where the snow is present; Fred and Pluto realize it is spring after all. Fred, who lies down on the roof of Pluto's doghouse with his legs blocking Pluto's exit, is then taken to the pond which Pluto brings him there, happily enjoying the warm pond during the spring.
