"Frightmares on Main Street" is the twenty-seventh episode of the Disney Channel animated series The Ghost and Molly McGee. It premiered on May 13, 2023, and is the seventh episode in the second season.
Synopsis[]
Scratch invites real ghosts to a Halloween "haunted house" to amp up the fun, but things spiral out of control when the Chens and a horde of Frightmares show up.
Plot[]
It is Halloween and everyone is in the spirit. Molly has set up a haunted house at the school that is for a good cause, which is that every dollar goes to a young boy getting a baby cow. Ollie is also helping Molly out despite Scratch's concern that he will catch on to her friendship with ghosts. Unbeknownst to them, Ollie is very much aware of this and believes that Molly is actually taken over by them and plans to "free" her. Molly opens up her haunted house, but unfortunately, it is underwhelming, not helped by the fact that Libby has herself stuck inside a giant pumpkin. While Molly leaves to get supplies, Scratch decides to help her out by making a real haunted house.
Scratch invites all of his ghost friends to come and spruce up the haunted house, which ends up working and bringing people back over and over again. Molly returns and is initially angry with Scratch, but she warms up when she realizes that the haunted house is making enough money. However, Ollie has decided to invade the house already to try and save Molly and is horrified by the abundance of ghosts, alerting his family to come right away. Molly tries to coax him out, but he insists that ghosts are evil, not helped by the fact that the ghosts proceed to scare Ollie himself as a tiebreaker to the scaring contest (which Geoff won). The rest of the Chens arrive and Molly is forced to hold them off while Scratch sends the other ghosts away (though she specifically tells him to do it calmly, he gets them to panic about the ghost hunters).
Ollie refuses to let Scratch go and demands to know why they are together. Scratch manages to convince him that he and Molly are friends and when June (who snuck in backstage) arrives to assist him and offered to finish off Scratch upon seeing his capturee, Ollie explains that he is "interrogating" him and needs more time, which she buys. The rest of the Chens enter the house and start to capture several ghosts with Molly trying to save Scratch from Ollie. The two get into an argument with Molly scolding Ollie for his prejudiced views against spectral anomalies and calls him an "en-bad-ifier". As she tells him that ghosts can be good, frightmares suddenly arrive via a portal from the sky, due to the chaos that is happening at the festival.
The frightmares proceed to attack and scare everyone while the Chens attempt to fight them off. As they are severely overpowered, Ollie decides to finally free Scratch after Molly convinces him to. His family tries to use their phantom cannister to catch them, but the untested device fails as June states that it was a prototype that wasn't ready. Scratch, who dons his Chairman robes, ironically orders the frightmares to be absorbed into the cannister. The Chens believe that their device actually worked, but June is suspicious. Ollie apologizes to Molly and Scratch and agrees to keep their friendship a secret. Despite the destruction, the town still mock the Chens for their belief in ghosts, with the exception of Mr. Bates who saw the ghost portal in the sky. The Chens (minus Ollie, to June's confusion) agree to continue their war against on ghosts, much to Molly and Scratch's displeasure.

Trivia[]
- This is the second episode in the series to be half an hour long episode instead of being in segments, following "The New (Para)Normal" (unless one counts "Out of House and Home/Home is Where the Haunt Is" and "The Jig is Up/Molly vs. The Ghost World" as half-hour stories).
- This is also be the first Halloween special of the series (aside from the Chibi Tiny Tales/Chibiverse short "Scratch's Sugar Rush") as well as its third national holiday episode after "Festival of Lights/Saving Christmas".
- This is the first time Molly's parents and Darryl were absent from a double-length episode.
- The title is a play on the classic horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street.
- In addition to being mentioned several times, a cardboard cutout of the original Ghost Chairman is among the House of Horrors' decorations.
- A sneak peek of the episode was shown during Disney Channel's Halfway to Halloween event on April 29, 2023.
- Several character costumes were reused from previous episodes:
- Sheila: her taekwando gi from "Talent Show"
- Mayor Brunson: his cotton candy uniform from "Citizen McGee"
- Andrea: her Snowflake Celebration queen outfit from "Saving Christmas"
- Several students and citizens: their pioneer clothes from "Monumental Disaster"
- The sword that Geoff held during the song "This House is Haunted" is the same one Scratch used during the song "One Best Friend" from "Friend-Off".
- The Chens are dressed in jumpsuits that resemble the uniforms from Ghostbusters.
- The Ghost Fighters franchise mentioned by Esther is also a parody of Ghostbusters.
- As of now, all the frightmares are in the Chens' phantom canister.

- The curse Scratch used to send the frightmares into the canister is the same one he used on Lord Doom in "A Doll to Die For".

- Ollie's reaction to learning Scratch's name ("It has a name!?") was the same as Sharon's in "The Curse".
- When Scratch tried to guess June's name after Ollie protected him from her, his two guesses were April and May. All three names are also the names of Daisy Duck's nieces.
- Andrea states that this is the 3rd time she's seen a ghost, the other times were "First Day Frights" and "Hooray for Mollywood!".
- Due to the episode being a Halloween special, its premiere in most regions outside of the North America ended up being put on hold until certain Halloween events in October 2023 across international versions of Disney Channel. As a result of this, the episodes that take place after this one, ended up premiering earlier in certain regions.
