"Frilly Tilly" is the first segment of the seventy-fourth episode of Big City Greens.
Synopsis[]
Tilly makes changes to her country's coming-of-age ceremony, and Gramma is not having it.
Plot[]
The Greens are setting up Tilly's coming-of-age ceremony with Bill and Nancy setting up the decorations, Cricket and Remy working with the filming equipment and Gramma Alice preparing for Tilly's arrival. Things are going the traditional route until Tilly arrives wearing a top hat, atop a smaller top hat, playing a tuba and riding on a skateboard. She reveals that this is part of what she plans to do for her "cornonation" so that she can express herself, but it is plainly obvious from Alice's expression that she is not happy with Tilly's plans to deter from tradition and tries to get her to set aside her things.
Alice explains to Tilly that she needs to wear a starchy ceremonial dress, shuck an ear of corn and then read from a very long coming-of-age speech, but Tilly wants to wear a flashy jumpsuit, blow some corn into popcorn, and read from an avant-garde spoken word poem that she wrote. When Alice tells her that she needs to wear the ceremonial headdress, Tilly tells her that that would not be possible as she will be wearing a helmet while on roller-blades. In the middle of the night, Alice dresses up as Elisheba Green and tells Tilly that she is disgracing the Green family name by not sticking to tradition. Frightened, Tilly tells her that she will stick to the traditions.
On the day of the cornonation, things are running smoothly, but Bill, Nancy, Cricket, and Remy notice that Tilly is not doing the things that she said she wanted to do. Not only that, but everyone attending the cornonation are clearly disinterested and find the festivities boring. Alice finally snaps and reveals that she wanted to have a boxing match for her cornonation, but that her mother forbade it and was only following orders. Upon seeing Tilly looking defeated, she realizes that she has made her miserable and allows Tilly to bring back her ideas. Tilly proceeds to liven the cornonation up with her original plans as everyone, including Alice, enjoy the festivities.
