Frozen Holiday Surprise is a nighttime castle projection show at Magic Kingdom, one of the four theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. Featuring characters and music from the Disney animated film Frozen and its sequel Frozen II, the show debuted on November 7, 2023, as part of the park's holiday season entertainment.
Plot[]
The show begins with Olaf, the snowman, and more than 100 of his snowgie siblings, who are small snowmen that Elsa created by accident. They try to decorate Cinderella Castle with festive touches, such as garlands, wreaths, and ornaments. Olaf also sings the song "That Time of Year" from the short film Olaf's Frozen Adventure. Then, Anna, Elsa, and Kristoff appear on stage in new holiday outfits. They each bring something special to the celebration, such as a gingerbread house, a sleigh, and a snow globe.
They also sing songs from the Frozen films, such as "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?", "For the First Time in Forever", and "Some Things Never Change". The show culminates with Elsa using her ice powers to transform Cinderella Castle into a shimmering crystallized palace, with snowflakes, icicles, and lights. She also will sing "Let It Go" from the first Frozen film and "Show Yourself" from the second film. The show ends with a fireworks finale and a chorus of "When We're Together" from Olaf's Frozen Adventure.
Background[]
Frozen Holiday Surprise is a replacement for the previous castle lighting show, A Frozen Holiday Wish, which ran from 2014 to 2019. The new show uses projections instead of LED lights to create the castle's icy look. It also features new costumes, music, and dialogue for the Frozen characters. The show is performed nightly during the holiday season, both during regular park hours and during Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party, a separate ticketed event. Announced on October 23, 2023 by the official Disney Parks Blog, it was created by a team of lighting designers, video technicians, composers, and a full orchestra.
