Georgia is a U.S. state that is located in the southeastern United States. It is bordered by Florida to the south, Alabama to the west, South Carolina and the Atlantic Ocean to the east, North Carolina to the northeast, and Tennessee to the northwest. It is the 24th largest state in area and the eighth most populous of the 50 United States. Its 2020 population was 10,711,908, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. Its state capital and largest city is Atlanta, a "beta(+)" global city. The Atlanta metropolitan area, with a population of more than 6 million people in 2021, is the eighth most populous metropolitan area in the United States and contains about 57% of Georgia's entire population. Other major metropolitan areas in the state include Augusta, Savannah, Columbus, and Macon.
